MSExchangeADTopology events 2060, 2069 and 2142

Hi

I installed Exchange 2013 CU6 on a VM that was already running Azure DirSync and ADFS proxy. All mailboxes are on Office 365, none on-premise. We have a working hybrid configration which was set up in Exchange 2010. The exchange 2010 server is still running and fully functional

Exchange 2013 worked correctly for a week, but after installing updates and rebooting, most of the exchange services would not start and I got events 2060, 2069 and 2142 with errors like this:

Process Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.TopologyService.exe (PID=5660) Forest gendac.co.za. Topology discovery failed, error details
No Minimal Required Number of Suitable Directory Servers Found in Forest gendac.co.za Site GendacPta and connected Sites..

Our AD has only one site with two domain controllers. I followed the advice found here and a few other places and everything checks out. nltest /dsgetsite returns the correct site and nltest /dclist returns the correct domain controllers. I also checked the "Mange auditing and security log" user right on the domain controllers and it is correct. The exchange server is also in the "Exchange Servers" group. I have rerun setup /prepareAD with the TenantOrganizationConfig parameter, with no effect.

I want to run set-eventloglevel to enable more diagnostic information, but the exchange management shell won't work as the AD topology fails.

 Any ideas?

Configure Personal Archive to Read Only

Hi,

Have a situation where company is moving away from using Personal Archives.

Due to the large amount of Archive data to be moved to the new solution we'd need to stop users from updating their Personal Archives but still have Read-Only Access.

Few options that come to mind...

One possibility is to reduce the Archive Quotas to zero, but users would receive an email daily reminding them it was over.
Adding a specific deny rule for the user on the Archive mailbox (is this even possible?)

Any other options people can think of?

Thanks

Hi,

We have one windows server 2008 R2 AD and exchange 2010 running on ABC.com domain

We have observer A primary  dns zone is existed in XYZ.Com in the name of ABC.COM

This dnz primary zone contained following A records.

when i deleted this Primary zone (ABC.com) from XYZ.COm domain. All outlook users getting the certificate error "The name of the security certificate is invalid or not in the name of the site"

But there is no issue on outlook anywhere, OWA users.

We have SSL SAN certificate installed for external outlook access.

Exchange 2010 Mismatched Address

I have installed an Exchange 2010 server. I am having issues with the Certificate. When opening Outlook 2013, an error occurs saying there is a Mismatched Address. The certificate is pointing to the internal address of exchange_servername.domain. The external address is mail.email_domain.net. I have created DNS entries to show the external address but am still having issues.

I need help urgently to get this up and running correctly as I need to set up Outlook Anywhere on laptops. Without the correct certificate, I cannot configure Outlook Anywhere.

I can access the internal address onsite and there are no certificate errors. I cannot access this site externally. I can access the OWA external address internally and externally but it has certificate errors.

Is there anyone that can help me with this issue? I have done a lot of reading and searching on the Internet and still have not found a resolve.

I tried creating another certificate with the correct address but it is now Pending which means it will not self certify and the company cannot afford to get an third party SSL purchased.

I thank you in advance. :)

Auth Package in Outlook Anywhere AutoDiscover is coming in incorrectly

$

Let me describe our situation and environment:

We have Exchange 2013 running in a 2008r2 level domain and are using Outlook Anywhere / AutoDiscovery to configure non-domain joined clients (this situation will change later, but our current priority is getting the Exchange server running and worrying and joining machines to the domain afterwards).  I had tried some configuration changes, which ultimately did not work, and I rolled back those changes.  On the ECP under Servers -> Servers -> My Exchange Server -> Outlook AnyWhere, there is a box that lets you choose between NTLM, Basic, and Negotiate authentication.  Exchange 2013 default is negotiate, which was working initially.  After rolling back my changes, however, my clients get repeated password prompts, and their passwords are rejected, if I have Outlook Anywhere authentication set to negotiate.  It works fine if I keep it set on NTLM.

Under Servers -> Virtual Directories -> AutoDiscover (Default Website) -> Authentication, the boxes for Basic Authentication and Integrated Windows Authentication are checked.  These are the default values if I remember correctly.

Even when I have my Outlook Anywhere authentication set to Negotiate, I have a section of code in the AutoDiscover XML file that Outlook pulls that looks like this:

<Type>EXPR</Type><Server>exchange.mycompany.com</Server><SSL>On</SSL><AuthPackage>Ntlm</AuthPackage>

My research tells me that EXPR controls Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP).  The AuthPackage seems to be incorrect here.  It's still giving me NTLM instead of Negotiate.  When I change Outlook Anywhere's authentication back to NTLM, everything works (after giving the server about fifteen minutes or so to update).

What is the problem here?  Why does the autodiscover return the wrong auth package for Outlook Anywhere?  Is there a time delay between changing the authentication for Outlook Anywhere and Exchange updating my Outlook clients so that their settings match?  I know that if I go into an Outlook client that is getting prompted for a password after Outlook Anywhere authentication has been changed to Negotiate, I can manually adjust their Exchange Proxy Server settings and get it to work, but I really want the AutoDiscover to simply deliver the correct auth package to begin with.

I don't mind using NTLM authentication; it works.  But I really need to know WHY this is happening and what to do to fix it.  Today, it may not matter, but it may matter in the future as network topology changes, and I will be expected to have the answer.

To further clarify:

When I run Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl name, *, my internal and external Client Authentication Methods are set to Negotiate, but I still get the entry I showed above in the AutoDiscover XML file that specifies NTLM.

Pre-requisites for e-Discovery from SharePoint Online to Exchange Online and On-prem

$

Hi,

I want to setup an O365 e-discovery site for SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Exchange On-prem. My understanding is that to have e-Discovery from SPOnline to Exchange Online & Exchange On-prem, we need to setup Exchange hybrid with OAuth. Please correct me if I am missing something. I have few questions regarding this setup -

1) Do we need to have Exchange 2013 On-premise for this setup? Or can it be done with Exchange 2010 too?

2) Is OAuth absolutely necessary for e-discovery to work between Exchange Online & On-prem? Or hybrid environment will work?  Can OAuth be configured between Exchange 2010 On-prem and Exchange Online for e-discovery?

3) Any other pre-requisites?

Thanks.

Online Archive not populating

We have implemented two Exchange 2013 CU3 servers in a DAG covering 2 AD sites in the same domain. Each server has implemented online archiving for users. One of the sites has replicated the archive database in the DAG.

However, the archive mailboxes are growing slowly, if at all. If we manually start the managed assistant for a mailbox, it runs for a few minutes and then stops.

In the event log, a few events are generated:

MSExchangeAssistants 9028:

Service MSExchangeMailboxAssistants. Managed Folder Mailbox Assistant caused the process to terminate 1 times while processing mailbox (unknown) on database Live (c8decfb1-1e25-4a02-bf83-976e378b2ca3). We also get error 9022:

Finally, we get MSExchange Common 4999:

Can anyone give any pointers as to how to resolve this?

MultiMailbox Search - search attacments by extension

Hi all,

Is it possible to search attachments by extension with multimailbox search?

the link: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/Cc498709.aspx states that "Suffix searches (*cat) or substring searches (*cat*) are not supported".

That means that I can't use attachment: *.docx

Is there another way to write this query.

Thank,

DLP Policy Tip for any message except particular domain

$

Hello.

Is there any easy way to show Mail/Policy Tips in Outlook 2013 when user sending message to any except one particular domain?

When I creating rule for Policy Tip (in Compliance Management -> Data Loss Prevention), Exchange claims that I must choose one of the Sensitive Information Type (like SSN or National Insurance Number), but I need to apply this rule to any message, no matter is there any sensitive information or not. I know I can create my own sensitive information type and I've tried to make it with Regexp witch match any letter or number, but with no luck (definitely I'm doing something wrong).

Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2013

We have just installed Exchange 2013 servers in our organization alongside existing Exchange 2007 servers. No mailboxes have been migrated yet and we are about ready to point our client access namespace to the Exchange 2013 servers and go into the co-existence stage.

We still have some Outlook 2003 clients and I know these need to be updated to 2007 SP3 or 2010 Sp1 or 2013 before those mailboxes are migrated to Exchange 2013.

However, I am curious as to whether we would hit any problems at all if we pointed our namespace to E2K13 before upgrading the Outlook 2003 clients, as long as none of the Outlook 2003 clients use Outlook Anywhere and the mailboxes those clients connect to remained on Exchange 2007 for the time being ?

Clearly, Outlook 2003 is not 'supported' but the wording in the following link...

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/845.outlook-versions-supported-by-exchange-200720102013online.aspx

says " Please bear in mind there’s a difference between what is supported and what might be compatible with Exchange 2013"

Would the situation I'm thinking of be one of those 'compatible but unsupported' scenarios. i.e I can't think of any reason why the Outlook 2003 clients would have a need to connect to an E2K13 CAS server ...

I'd be interested to hear other people experiences/opinions on this. Thanks!

Is there a default location for message tracking logs on Exch2010?

And what format are they in?

can they be analysed in any other tool than exchange, if for example you had recovered the logs from a backup?

Email Address Policies Troubles

Hello,

I'm busy working on a multi-tenants Exchange 2013, and I have interesting situation I'd need help with.

Setup:
A resource forest with an empty root domain and a sub-domain where Exchange servers are installed,
Multiple forest where "human"users will live.In the Resource sub-domain I have created one dedicated OU / tenants,  the linked mailbox user are stored under the right OU.

I try to setup Email Address Policy based on the Recipient Container, so that User in OU Tenant001 get an e-mail address %1g.%s@tenant001.com

The policy is created, the "apply to" simulation in the EAC shows the rights recipient.. BUT the policy never gets applied (and i did run update-emailaddresspolicy more than needed)

I have tried all the possible way to do it, I can't get them properly applied.

Intersting fact: If i create a local mailbox (thus not a linked mailbox), the policy applied properly.

any idea where I should look ?

thanks,

Chris

User Getting Error on Setup

Hi All,

I am currently rolling out excahnge and getting users all hooked up. All seemed to be going fine until 1 machine as the following issue.

The name cannot be resolved. The Connection to microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

I have followed the advice on technet and copied registry settings from a working machine, but this has not resolved.

Any ideas on where to go from here, heads getting sore from all the scratching!

Regards

Richard
