I am trying to construct a report that will give me our response times for incoming mail. I am quite new to Powershell so any assistance/advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2013 - Missing Emails sent internally

$

Can someone please help me diagnose what has happened with the following problem

User1 sends an email at 23:18 from his works laptop at home which is connecting to exchange using Outlook Anywhere

User1 sends an email to 4 users: "User2, User3, User4, UserEx" - UserEX is an external user.

User3, User4 & UserEX - Received the email

User2 - Did not received the email

User1 - Travels to place of works and logs onto his works PC (not the laptop which is at home)

User1 - Also receives a copy of all messages sent to User2 and notices that he doesn't have a copy of the email he sent to User2 at 23:18.

User1 - Checks his sent items, there is no email there from 23:18

User1 - Confirms that User3, User4 received the email, which they have.

He contacts me (support) asking what is going on. I investigate by looking at his OWA (thinking it could be a syncing issue), the email doesn't show up UNLESS I do an advance search on his OWA Email Box, which tells me there are two emails 1 in his Inbox and 1 in his drafts. Move away from the advanced search and the email cannot be found.

I complete a Deliver Report for User2 for this missing email; Results below

The message was successfully delivered.

Even the Get-MessageTrackingLog tells me the message was sent. Though there was a HAREDIRECTFAIL & AGENTINFO in the processing.

If anyone can help me workout what the heck is happening here, id be very appreciative.

Thanks

AD/Exchange

Hello,

I have small envinronment with SBS 2011 and Exchange 2010. SBS (where Exchange is installed) is also a DC. DC hosts all operations masters. Recently I installed second domain controller for fault tollerance. I had interesting problem when second DC went down for a while, owa users are unable to connect. They received following error: The Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service on server localhost did not return any suitable domain controllers. I also see lot of Process <some exe> (PID=3820). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not responding: <list of domain controllers> in event log. All AD services are running, I also checked if SRV record is present in DNS. Do you have any idea what causing this problem? Both servers host global catalog, so it is strange when I got this error in owa:

Exception
Exception type: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.ADTransientException
Exception message: Could not find any available Global Catalog in forest <ourdomain.local>

repadmin \syncall runs withot errors.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Unknown Mobile Numbers in Contacts

I'm dealing with a rather difficult issue to resolve. We have about 8 people in the organization who are dealing with unknown phone numbers showing up in 4 of the contacts that I'm pushing out with codetwo exchange sync software. It appears these numbers are pushing out from some other source or possibly being shared amongst one another somehow.

The exchange sync software sync's the employee's contact folder with a master account. The software does not appear to be the issue as it is working on all accounts aside from these 8 and the numbers that are showing up have never been entered into the contacts that the software is pushing.

Is there anyway to track down where these numbers are coming from? Would logs show when the numbers appear and the source?

I've had all employees delete the contacts from their phones and contact folders in outlook with no luck. They push back out correctly from the contact sync software and then about a day or two later the contacts appear with those old not in use mobile numbers. I really want to get these numbers to go away but there doesn't seem to be any way to narrow down the culprit.

Any advice is really appreciated.

Hi there,

Try as I might, I cannot get Exchange 2013 to install on a Server 2008 R2 domain.

Previously tried installing, but it repeatedly failed complaining about IPv6 being disabled. Re-enabled IPv6 and attempted to no avail (same error). However, the modifications have already been made to Active Directory.

Now trying in a fresh installation of Windows, and get these errors (below). The errors are wrong: the accountis a member of Enterprise Admins for example.

Please advise.

Updating receive connector on Edge 2010 gets overwritten by TMG

I have a 2010 Edge box with TMG installed, and every time I change the IP ranges in the Receive Connector, it gets overwritten by TMG. As a workaround, I can stop the EdgeSync service in TMG and change the individual IP addresses, but I cannot add a range (I want to add a whole subnet).

What if I remove the receive connector completely and replace it with a new one with a different name? Would that still get overwritten by TMG?

Running Forefront TMG 2010 Service Pack 2, Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 RU4

Changing Default Email Address Exchange 2013

I need to change the default email address. I'm setting up the John Doe account as JDoe@example.com. However, if there are other John's in the directory it will append a number to it and set that as the default. So now I have John2@example.com. It does also add the JDoe@example.com, but when the user replies to an email it comes from the default John2@example.com. I know how to do this in Exchange 2010, but don't see the option to do it in Exchange 2013.

Locking down Outlook cached mode for home users

$

Hello all!

We are moving into Exchange 2010 – 2013 coexistence and I have been asked to find a way to lock down Outlook for home users.  I’ve done a good bit of research and it isn’t looking promising, so I’m posing the question to you fine minds!

The basic scenario is:

  1.       An employee connects Outlook cached mode on his home computer to his company mailbox.  It works fine because this user has a mail-enabled AD account and a company computer with Outlook set up.
  2.       Later down the road, that employee separates from the company.  We disable his account and go through all the standard operating procedures for terminating a user.
  3.       The user, whenever he likes, goes home and opens up Outlook on his home computer. All he has to do is hit Cancel on the authentication prompt and he has access to all of his old cached email and contacts.

For obvious reasons, this is a huge security / business risk.  How do we prevent it from happening?

Of course, Outlook connectivity for production machines cannot be affected internally or externally.

I know this can be accomplished via GPO, but home user computers aren’t domain-joined J

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

EWS problem (error 401)

Hi,

I am stuck trying to get Outlook 2011 to connect to my Exchange Server 2013.

After some days of debugging it seems that whatever is tried via EWS fails with HTTP error 401.

test-outlookwebservices commandlet, EWSeditor, Microsoft Remote Connectiviry Analyser and Outlook 2011 all hits the same issue: Meddelelse: HTTP error 401 - Unauthorized.

Environment:

Exchange Server 2013 fully patched. It was installed in a clean WS 2012 enviroment. No settings or data has been migrated.

No other software is running on the Exchange Server.

The installed certificate is from GlobalSign is a plain domain certificate (not a SAN cert).

All internal and external URL's on the virtual directories are set to the same server (the external name) and we have split DNS to point to the Exchange servers internal/external IP address.

DisableLoopbackCheck registry value has been set to 1.

OWA, Outlook 2014 and ActiveSync works fine.

Autodiscovery (DNS SRV redirect) works fine.

On the EWS VD anonymous, basic and Integrated Auth is enabled (both NTLM and Basic auth gives the same 401 error).

I'm stuck and looking forward to some inputs.

Creating an addres list of all users that have an email address listed in Active directory

I'm wondering whether or not this is possible.

Our staff use email based on Exchange 2013.

Our students however use googlemail.  Each student account has an email address listed in the mail attribute in AD but this doesn't get listed in the Address list as they are not mail enabled.

What I'd like to know is there a way to create an additional address list that populates itself using the mail attribute where mail ends @student.com?

If it is possible, how?

issue moving remote user from exchange 2007 to 2013

$

have moved over 60 people so far from exchange 2007 to 2013, it was going well with no major problems.

during migration I have created a DNS setting called legacy.mydomain.com, and it points to the old exchange server, while mail.mydomain.com points to the new exchange server.

outlook was working connecting to both servers, and OWA was working on both servers.

couple of remote users who connect via SSL-VPN and outlook 2010 had issues connecting, but as soon as I moved them to 2013 exchange they connected without vpn using outlook anywhere.

but - I have one remote user who even though the mailbox move to the new 2013 server was successful, their outlook still points to the 2007 exchange server.

if I try creating a new profile in outlook 2013, it fails because it cannot contact exchange server, even when ssl-vpn is running.

when I started troubleshooting I found lots of spyware on his laptop, symantec had been blocking some trojans, obviously he had downloaded something he shouldnt have.

could this have caused my outlook connectivity issue?

I ran malawarebytes, and it shows clean now, but still unable to get his outlook to connect.

I had thought about moving his mailbox back to the old server, seeing if it works on outlook, then moving it to the new one again.

any suggestions?

issue canceling public folder migration

$

moving some public folders from exchange 20007 to 2013.

ran into an issue that was stopping the migration due to naming convention of some of the public folders, found out  that folder and some others were no longer needed, leaving me with just one folder, so I thought it would be simpler to just create it on the 2013 server.

so on 2013 exchange I ran Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Remove-PublicFolderMigrationRequest and it seemed to run without error, but when I go to create a new public folder mailbox on the 2013 server I get the error "an existing public folder deployment has been detected.  to migrate public folder data create new public foldermailbox using -holdformigration switch"

am I missing a step to kill the previous migration request, I had read that was all I needed to do.

Exchange 2010 SP3 install question

$

Greetings!  I am planning on installing the SP3 update for Exchange 2010 in preparation for a Hybrid deployment with O365.  After installing the SP3 update to all Exchange servers in our environment, I was going to then install the RU8 on the servers.  Hopefully I can perform all of this during one maintenance window.  I have already performed the schema update for SP3 during our most recent maintenance window.

I have been scouring the forums for any potential upgrade issues.  I wanted to know if there was any concern about the RU8 update for SP3 that might affect our environment from past experience of other admins; whether it be Outlook clients (we use mostly Outlook 2010 with some Outlook 2013) or OWA.  We are currently on SP2, RU6.

Thanks in advance!
