hello,

I have setup my exchange 2010 on vmware workstation, but everytime I shutdown the workstation and then switch on,for the exchange to work I have to restart all the services related to exchange even it is automatic hence it would take almost 30 minute to make the exchange to work.

Hence anyone please suggest me to avoid these regular activity means I don't want to start any services after restarting the box.

User Mailbox Quarantined

We have 10 users who's mailbox has been quarantined and deemed "poisonous".  In the registry for each of the mailbox GUID's, it has aMailboxQuarantineDescription that states the following:

NullReferenceException: MESSLDM.MessageViewTable.GenerateDataAccessOperatorForIndexPopulation,MESSLI.LogicalIndex.BuildPopulationQueryOperatorDefinition,MESSLI.LogicalIndex.BuildPopulateObjectIfNecessary,MESSLI.LogicalIndex.PrepareIndexImpl,MESSLDM.MessageViewTable.PrepareIndexes

I am trying to determine why the mailboxes were quarantined, but this is very cryptic to me.  Does anybody have any suggestion on how to determine why the mailbox was quarantined?  I see that the quarantines will all end between 2PM and 4PM today, but if they should somehow wind back up in the quarantine, I would like to determine root cause.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Tentative meeting request not showing when shared calendar

$

Hello

I have user1, who shares calendar with user2

user2 has owner/editor permissions over user1 calendar

When user1 receives a meeting request, it shows as tentative in his own calendar, but, user2, cant see this meeting request while is in tentative.

user2 needs this, because user2 accepts the meetings from the shared calendar.

This happens on Exchange 2013, on exchange 2010 was working fine.

Any tips on where we are missing some config for this?

Unable to import .pst file - ConnectionFailedTransientExeption

Hi all,

I´m trying to Import Holidays into the outlook-calendars of all the employees of my Company. Therefore I created a sample.hol file containing the Dates and imported this into an empty calendar. I then exported it to a .pst file which I now want to Import into the calendars of all users. The pst seems fine - I can Import it in the test System without any hassle.

However, when I try to Import the pst on the production Exchange (Ex2013 CU10), I always get the error pasted below.

The user running the script has Import/Export rights, the Servers are all up and running fine, the allowed message sizes are set to high enough values. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Best regards
Nico

I am running exchange server 2013 CU9

please assis in:

- certificate setup

- loadbalancing ( concidering I don't have a loabdbalncer)

- failover

2010 and 2013 Coexistence Outlook Anywhere proxy to 2010 mailbox fails intermittently

Exchange 2010 SP3 rollup 8v2: three CAS/HT servers with load balanced VIP of mail.domain.com. That domain is used for all internal and external URLs except autodiscover sets the server value in Outlook to outlook.domain.com when using OA. This has and continues to work perfectly for Exchange 2010 mailboxes. These servers are running on Server 2008 Ent. All servers are virtual with 64GB ram and multiple 10G NICS iSCSI MPIO, Mapi, and Replication.

Exchange 2013 SP1 CU8: four multirole servers with a separate load balanced VIP of mail.domain.com (same as 2010). That domain is used for all internal and external URLs just as it is in the 2010 servers. These servers are running on virtualized Server 2012 R2 with the same config as the 2010 servers.

The OutlookProvider values for EXCH, EPR, and WEB are set to msstd:mail.domain.com

When I changed DNS to point mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com to the Exchange 2013 VIP I received a number of complaints from end users that they either could not connect to their 2010 mailboxes or the connections would drop and not reconnect for extended periods of time.

I backed the DNS changes out and am now testing using virtual desktops with host file entries for both mail.domain.com and autodiscover.domain.com to the 2013 servers. What I've found is:

  • A mailbox on the 2013 system will connect perfectly and immediately using Outlook or OWA and is rock solid.
  • A mailbox on the 2010 system will sometimes connect and disconnect when using Outlook but works perfectly in OWA.

I've seen other questions about similar issues but have not found a solution that helps. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I wondered, why the ExLogAnalyzer is not any longer available for download?

Are there any other download links available?

Exchange 2013 Outlook Web App Mobile device policy recover password

$

When we run the shell command to show the recovery password we can see the recovery password:

Get-MobileDeviceStatistics -Mailbox "<user>" -ShowRecoveryPassword:$true

But when we login on Outlook Web App to see the recovery password for the user we can't find it.

This TechNet for Exchange 2010 gives the following steps but can't reproduce with Exchange 2013:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996351(v=exchg.141).aspx

Is there an option that's has to be enabled for the device recovery password to be viewed by the user on Outlook Web App?

Prevent Use Of Client Access Server On DR Site

$

I've recently deployed Exchange 2013 in our organisation (upgraded from 2010). With our 2010 environment I had 3 mailbox servers in the DAG, 2 at head office (SITE1) and one at our DR site (SITE2). With this being a DR site the bandwidth usage was quite high throughout the day.

I have tried to recreate this setup with 2013 but, from the articles I've read, each site with a mailbox server role also requires the client access role. This is where the problem seems to start!

Due to the high bandwidth usage (not just Exchange) to the DR site the ECP webpage becomes extremely slow at generating pages, property windows, etc. I have seen this issue reported by other users in a similar situation. I'm guessing it's because all Exchange servers need to send data and it's having to wait longer to receive the required data from SITE2.

We also get issues with Outlook becoming unresponsive. Users at SITE1 appear to have no issues, SITE2 I'm not aware of any reported issues. But other sites appear to select whichever client access server they like.

I can cope to a point with the ECP slowness but is there any way we can prevent clients from selecting the SITE2 CAS over SITE1?

Would setting the DR site CAS role setting 'isOutOfService' to True (until required in a DR situation) make a difference or would this cause more issues as then technically there is no CAS role in SITE2. My other thought was to somehow add a cost to the CAS, but I'm not sure if that would be possible.

Thanks for any help!

Outlook Security Alert - Certificate does not match

I got this infamous error in our Outlook 2007/2010 and Exchange 2010 SP1 environment. I have followed some KBs onine like this one, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/940726 to make sure all the Internal and External URls are pointed our external DNS server name on AutoDiscover, OAB, OWA etc. However, the cert error still pops up. The only thing making progress is the error pops up once instead of twice. I must have still overlooked something. Please advise.

Thanks

Hi all,

I have a question about adding a new SSL cert from GlobalSign.

The new cert has been added to IIS a few days before the current one expires. Simply because the expiration date of the current cert lands on a weekend and no one will be about to add the new cert over the weekend.

The new SSL cert is added and looks fine however I have a couple of concerns.

- the friendly name is different which I am 99% sure is ok

- more importantly the issued by field is slightly different. The current SSL cert issued by field reads "GlobalSign Domain Validation CA - G2". However the new SSL cert issued by field reads "GlobalSign Domain Validation CA - SHA256 G2"

Does the issued by filed matter at all? I just want to be sure the cert will work when the current one expires.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 CU11 Possible Bug

It looks like the -local switch is broken

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus -identity 'mailbox_db_name' -Local

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus -identity 'mailbox_db_name' -Active

Both commands appear to return the database status from the active server. Can anybody else try this and confirm the results I am seeing?

Event ID 4625 random account names

New to Audit logs and just noticed a bunch of failures with a bunch of random Account Names that don't exist and coming from a workstation that does not exist on our network.

Account names are for example. FTpuser, operator, test, POS, cashier, Restaurant, etc. (none of these exist on our network)

-Only thing I have determined is it's not coming from our FTP server.  If anyone can shed some light on this that would be great!

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.

- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.

- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

How many phone numbers can you put in OWA for text messages?

MX records equal preference, but one server getting heavily favored

So I'm in an Exchange environment, but I'm not sure this is explicitly related to Exchange.

We have DLP devices in between HT's and 4 EDGE servers for outbound internet email. For some reason, we're seeing significantly more volume to one of the 4 EDGE servers from the DLP devices. We're just using DNS round robin  for the EDGE server MX records as you can only have one destination smarthost. Would it be possible that the DLP devices are "caching" a single MX record and are heavily favoring it? I think I understand how MTA's treat MX records - if they're all same pref, it just goes through at random until it makes a connection. If that's right, I can't think of why we're seeing this issue. Any ideas?
