Managed Folders Within Exchange 2007 SP3

Hello Everyone -

We have three 2 node CCR clustered MBX servers in our environment. We want to test using Managed Folders. I was able to create and setup the custom managed folder and a policy to associate with it. On one of our clusters I am able to use add the managed custom by applying the policy to my account and then running the command to Start-ManagedFolderAssistant  for my mailbox. The managed folder shows up just fine. When I try to run this command for another account located on a different cluster the folder never shows. If we move a mailbox to the cluster that is working and run the command the folder appears. What could be stopping this from working on the other 2 CCR clusters? Please Help

I have these errors on two (identical) Exchange 2013 multi-role servers with CU2 installed. I have seen http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/de3a3c03-1abd-4db3-9629-716205270d08/event-id-1310-source-aspnet-40303190 but this seems to be another issue.

Upgrading Exchange Server 2003 to 2010 to 2013 is worth???

Hello there, I am planning to upgrade about 30 users from exchange server 2003 to 2010 and finally to 2013. Is it worth to upgrade in this way because this steps are hard and very time consuming. What if, if I just copy all the user mailboxes directly to exchange server 2013 and configure 2013 as a new exchange server and decommission old exchange server 2003?

How to copy user mailboxes to fresh exchange server 2013?

Please help me out.

Thankx

Updated information.

I can succussfully connect to the exchange powershell from a remote computer, using this method.

$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://<FQDN of Exchange 2013 Client Access server>/PowerShell/ -Authentication Kerberos

Import-PSSession $Session

So the problem is localised on the server.

Out of Office responding to every email received.

I have an issue. Out of office is replying to every email sent when enabled. This is only happening to 2 users, they have different OS's, and different versions of Outlook. They have no client side rules, and the only rule listed server side seems to be a default rule. The rule is listed below. One user was recently moved to a new computer, one user has had his computer for more than a year. If i close outlook and use the OWA to turn on Out of Office, I have the same results. No one else in the organization is affected. This is Exchange 2013 in a DAG setup, 4 servers total. The two users are in the same OU, but the vast majority of users are in that OU. They do have some groups in common, I can't find a group that only these two users belong to. There are at least 10 users in each group they are members of.  I'm at a loss here. Where else should i be looking?

Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013

please read my question and comments carefully before replying.

We just upgraded to Outlook 2013 x64bit and exchange 2010. there is only one exchange server with all updates and fixes installed, and Outlook is up-to-date as well.

User A sends a meeting request with tentative appointment to user B

User B accepts the appointment and it shows on his calendar as tentative

User A changes the appointment from tentative to out of the office or busy and sends update to user B

User B receives the update and click on No Response Required

User B's calendar does NOT change from tentative to out of the office or busy.......

we tried OWA as well as tried this in cached mode and online mode and made no difference.

you can see that communiation is real time between the two clients and exchange because as a test, I changed the words and client machine immediately updated but the free/busy/out of the office status never changes unless you change the time of the appointment.

Please let me know

In Exchange 2013, is there a way to add the distribution list name to the beginning of the subject line?  This would allow users to determine which list the message came from.

Thanks.

Exchange 2007/2013 Co-existence and Public Folder

$

I'm in the middle of upgrading from Exchange 2007 on-premises to 2013 on-premises.  Some users are still on Ex2007 and some have been moved to Ex2013.  I have a large Public Folders database that still resides on 2007.

The users who have been migrated to Ex2013 cannot view the public folders in Outlook.  Outlook will show the Public Folder tree.  However, when we click on a folder to view it, then Outlook just shows a progress bar and never shows any of the contents inside the Public Folder.  This happens on all Public Folders in the tree.

Any ideas?  I was under the impression this would work.

I tried enabling Outlook logging.  However, I didn't get any good information from it.

Could it have anything to do with how large my Public Folder database is?  We have over 20,000 folders in our database.

Exchange 2013 - How to configure Outlook Anywhere with certificate based authentication?

$

Hello,

is it possible to secure Outlook Anywhere in Exchange 2013 with certficate based authentication?

I found documentation to configure CBA for OWA and ActiveSync, but not for Outlook Anywhere.

We would like to secure external access to the mailboxes via Outlook by using CBA.

Thanks a lot in advance!

To publish OWA, ActiveSync or not

$

Hi All,

We are upgrading to Exch2010 in the next 3 months and then to Exch 2013 thereafter. At the moment we have Exch 2003 FE Server sitting on the internal LAN that host OWA so connections are allowed directly to the LAN. One of our seniour managers have a need to put OWA connections terminate in the DMZ.

Few Questions popped up

1. Is this best practice and recommended by Microsoft?

2. In this post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/35c03ed9-be08-4e21-9192-e2167eb79738/alternative-method-for-publish-owa?forum=exchangesvrgeneral I read that letting OWA connections through to your internal LAN just with a firewall NAT is OK and supported by Microsoft

3. If it is best practice to publish things like OWA, etc, what are the best solutions. Is it still worth while to go with TMG and then look for an alternative?

4. By implementing the ET Role in the DMZ does that not make up for some security and does Microsoft not OK that without a Reverse Proxy?

Looking forward to hear from you and the experience you have gained in the field

Thanks in advanced

Differerence between two system mailboxes

$

I current use a linux based spam filter that edits the header when it thinks something is spam. It then relays the message to my exchange server. In exchange, I use a transport rule that looks for the header and if it finds it, sends the message to be moderated. If the message is spam, I do not reject it and just let it expire. If it is valid, I approve it.

The issue with this is that expired messages send a message back to the sender saying that the message was not approved. So I was sending email to spammers. I got around this by creating a spam rule that blocks messages sent to outside of the organization that come from SystemMailbox {1f05a927-xxxx- xxxx - xxxx -xxxxxxxxxxxx} and that seems to have worked. I did not get a reject notification to my gmail account. But then I noticed that sometimes SystemMailbox {bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c} is the one that actually sends the email. So now I added that sender to not be able to send outside of the organization.

While looking up more on these system mailboxes, I see that SystemMailbox {1f05a927-xxxx- xxxx - xxxx -xxxxxxxxxxxx} is used for message approvals which makes sense and that  SystemMailbox {bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c} is an "organization" system mailbox. What other type of emails does this mailbox send? Will I be okay blocking that mailbox from sending outside of my organization?

Exchange 2013 co-existence with 2007 can not send from 2013 - receives OK

2013 SP1  -separate servers for MBX and CAS - 4 of each. Exchange 2007 configured as a CCR

I am in co-existence mode but have not yet switched on the legacy.domainname.com. I have a new certificate installed on all servers - 2007 and 2013 with the legacy namespace included

I can receive on the exchange 2013 servers and can send to exchange 2013 users but cannot send to 2007 users or externally. I have enabled protocol logging and I'm seeing:

2014-04-02T00:57:31.476Z,Outbound Primary,08D1120CF8FEEDBA,0,,10.0.9.1:25,*,,attempting to connect
2014-04-02T00:57:52.521Z,Outbound Primary,08D1120CF8FEEDBA,1,,10.0.9.1:25,*,,"Failed to connect. Winsock error code: 10060, Win32 error code: 10060, Error Message: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.0.9.1:25"

The client has a pair of Axway mailgateway appliances (Tumbleweed). We can Telnet between the exchange 2013 servers and the Axways. There is a firewall between these mail gateways and the exchange servers and the following ports were opened - 25,443,465,995,110

I used the existing send connectors from 2007 and just added the mailbox servers to them. I created 2 new receive connectors to match 2 specialist 2007 connectors.

But I still can't send mail. Any suggestions where next to check?

Backing up Exchange Server 2013 CU3 with Windows Server Backup Program

Looking at configuring Windows Server Backup Program to backup Exchange Server 2013 CU3 which is a member a DAG Group using a specific Backup Domain Account.

From my understanding from the following technet Article" Using Windows Server Backup to Backup and Restore Exchange Data" at  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876851(v=exchg.150).aspx I cannot use wbadmin.exe has it uses an older unsupported version of Powershell.

My question is what are the minimum AD rights required for an AD account needed to be able to backup/restore Exchange Datastore using Windows Server Backup Program in Windows Server 2012?

Thanks,

Exchange 2010 / Outlook 2010 /Outlook 2013 spam filtering

$

Hi,

We use Exchange 2010 Mailserver and MS Outlook 2010/2013 mail clients. I'm quite confused about configuring junk mail filtering, so can somebody give me few simple answers.

If i'm not wrong basically it goes like that:

Filtering can be made on server/mailbox level, when it can be configured using Exchange powershell. The other way is MS Outlook Junk filtering and it can be configured using GPO.

My first question is, are those two ways completely separated or not? I have found articles which are conflicting in my opinion. For example this speaks how to configure Outlook junk filtering using powershell which should not be possible. Or does Outlook mean OWA in this example? http://beccabits.com/2011/10/07/how-to-bulk-modify-safe-senders-list-in-outlook-with-exchange-management-shell/

Second question is if i configure MS Outlook Safe Senders list i can see changes using Exchange powershell which means that mailbox junk filtering can be configured through MS Outlook. Is this correct?

Third question concerns MS Outlook safe senders list which i try to load from txt-file using GPO. Problem is that it works only some users. Checked the situation using process monitor and looks like Outlook reads only junkmailimportlists reqkey and not the other keys, for example junkmailsafesendersfile. Reqkeys have been loaded from GPO correct anyway. I have tried to fix this and sometimes the only way looks to be updating junkmail settings through OWA and sometimes update-safelist from powershell. I have tried to update all users safelist using powershell but it doesn't work. How to fix this? We have thousands of users and fixing one by one is not the solution

Thanks in advance

Tried a little more now. Looks like only updating Junk mail list trough OWA helps the situation, when Outlook SafeSenders list do not update using GPO. After using OWA, Outlook GPO works.

Using OWA is not the solution as i said before but is it possible to do the same thing by for example adding some address to every users mailbox safe senders list using powershell? That updates users safelist like OWA do or am i wrong?

outlook & exchange 2013 connection issue

I've installed exchange 2013 in our current exchange 2010 environment. I've created a test mailbox on a new database in exchange 2013, now when I try to set up outlook, it comes up with the username and server name straight away, but when it gets to the 3rd step which is looking for server settings, it fails and comes up with an error:

Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete

I've no idea what's wrong. I've installed both CAS and mailbox roles on the exchange 2013 server, the server populates correctly. If I change the server to one of our exchange 2010 servers then it works fine. Not sure what's wrong

BES 5.0 with Exchange 2013

We are in the process of configuration BES 5 with 2013 and got stuck during the installation. We are new to Exchange environment as we are now migrating from Lotus Domino. We have followed the same documents mentioned by BB but could not succeed with the installation as it is stuck at MAPI setting page. We also could not complete few steps mentioned in the pre-requisites and was told by our service provider that we are getting stuck because of this missing pre-requisites. We were not able to complete the Task1 and Task 3 as mentioned in KB33413. In Task 1 we are not able to set the value for IISAuthenticationMethods {Basic, Ntlm, Negotiate}Ntlm .Have applied the commands as advised at the end of the Task 1, restarted the services and server but no luck. It is showing blank in our case. In Task3 we were having the HomeMTA attribute as not set and was supposed to copy the attributes from the other two fields. Would like to clarify how we could copy these two values to one field, is it one after another with a comma or space?

Also, we were told by the Service provider that they have limited support for Exchange 2013 SP1 version. Can somebody please verify if it works with the same? Kindly help.

Out of Office not turning off

$

Hello,

Over the past two days, I've had about 15-20 users contact me saying their out of office is still on after being away for the weekend. They claimed to have turned it off, but are still sending an out of office whenever someone contacts them. I have the MFCMapi and have changed the Boolean value from True to False for PR_OOF_STATE for each person, fixing this issue.

However, I am needing to know what is causing this to happen? I have read about the possibility of a rules issue, but each user I have checked isn't using rules. My Exchange is 2007 on SP3, and I've done what others suggested and each user didn't have any free/busy errors. What would be causing this, and how do I prevent it from happening in the future?

Thanks!
