Emails arriving with Chinese characters

$

Hello,

I have a couple outside contacts that send emails to my users regarding travel. Flight itineraries and the like. Those emails usually have a PDF attached. Not sure if that is relavent or not. The emails display in my users Outlook client (2010) with Chinese characters and some other odd characters (like a smiley face and hearts).

The research I've done points at the senders email server having the root issue. Perhaps they just had a patch applied and it changed the locale or they may be using a Lotus Notes server.

Lately, we've been getting more in from another outside source with the same problem, so I'm wondering if it isn't actually on my Exchange server (2007). Does anyone have an idea of what I could check to verify that this is or is not on my end of the pipe?

TIA

Certificate Mistakenly Created for Office 2013 User...

I unnecessarily created a Thawte certificate for an Office 2013 user, and am concerned what will happen when the certificate expires.

None of our users needs a certificate.

Will the user get an expiration notice, and can it simply be ignored?

Will the user's Exchange account still work?

Must anything be done to the user's account to keep it working?

Reject messages sent from a member of a distribution list to anyone outside of that distribution list.

We are working with a transport rule and are wanting to setup a Group that can only e-mail themselves.  So far we have

Apply rule to messages

from a member of "group a"

Send "This message was rejected" to sender with "5.7.1"

Except when any of the recipients in the To or Cc field is a member of

"group a".

this works, except, if the e-mail is sent to a member of group A and also sent to anyone else the e-mail is allowed through.

Can a rule be setup to split the e-mail and deliver the e-mail to the member of group a but bounce the message that was addressed to the recipient that is not a member of group a.

New user creation

Hi,

We are just moving to Exchange from an old mail system that does not export accounts to Exchange. I would like to create the accounts (200+) ahead of the cut over date (within the next month) and just leave them as disconnected until the night before cutover. Is there any issues with setting up these accounts ahead of time? The old email system is still in production but if the new accounts are not "live" it shouldn't effect mail delivery to the old server...??

thx,

No e-mail address for contact on the same Exchange server in "From", when access is limited by address book policy

$

Hello,

I have following awkward situation:

I have user@contoso.com and user@tailspintoys.com on the same exchange server.

Address book policies for this users are configured in such way, so contoso.com users do not see tailspintoys.com users at all (customer address list, based on OU - different domain users are in different OUs; custom globaladdressbooks, based on PrimarySmtpAddress filtering and custom Offline Address books, based on customized address list, mentioned earlier).

user@tailspintoys.com send an e-mail to user@contoso.com. When user@contoso.com checks his inbox (in OWA) he sees new e-mail but when he checks "From" field - he sees only the name and even when checking (double-click) contact details everything is blank, no e-mail/phone/additional info.

I want users to have access to e-mail, so this problem does not occur (it causes other problems with replies in Outlook 2011 for Mac), but still do not want contoso.com users see tailspintoys.com users in any address books (offline/GAB).

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Cross Domain Resource Booking - Exchange 2010

$

Hi Forum,

I am seeking a solution for cross domain resource booking in Exchange 2010. Here is the scenerio:

Parent Company has imported Child Company conf room resources in GAL as contacts. When users in Parent Co. try to book a Child Company conf rm, the meeting request is set to tentative on room calendar and no notification is sent to user. External Messages are set to allowed to process, and contacts of user accounts exist in Child Company Exchange system. AutoAccept is also set to enabled since these are Resource Objects in Child Company.

Essentially, the room is being added to the meeting invite as a user account and not as a Resource. Is there a way to get this Resource added correctly or to accept Meeting Requests automatically based on availablity? The Conf Room is a contact on Parent Co. ; can a contact pass Meeting Requests to a Resource correctly?

TIA.

Hello,

After trying so many fixes I tried posting this here. Please help me

We have a exchange server 2010 and 2 Exchange servers 2013(CU3) running on a DAG( all roles on both servers)

Everything else is working. But OAB is not. Outlook keeps updating the address book.

OAB URL

https://mail.domain.ca/OAB/e5e60181-999c-4281-b408-eb23544a4ce0/oab.xml

come with

Server Error in '/OAB' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --><configuration><system.web><customErrors mode="Off"/></system.web></configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --><configuration><system.web><customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/></system.web></configuration>

Arbitration mail box exists.

I amended the OAB permission on IIS for authenticated users read&execute

When doing a cross-forest migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 are there any benefits to installing an Exchange 2010/2013 CAS MRSProxy in the source Exchange 2007 forest?

Exchange 2013 CU3 Databases only activate on one mailbox server

$

Hi, guys

I have two Exchange 2013 CU3 Mailbox servers installed, one DAG, 5 databases, each has one copy. I found that if I activated three databases on Mailboxserver1 or Mailboxserver2, then after a few hours, all databases will  be activated on the mailbox server which has three databases activated. All the databases can be activated on Mailboxserver1 or Mailboxserver2, and they work well. I disabled DAC mode for preventing Event 4133 and 4376. And it has the same problem if I enable DAC mode.

From the event log, I found the log when activate one database on another mailbox server, it is Event 3169:

Managed availability system failover initiated by Responder=OutlookMapiHttpDeepTestFailover Component=Outlook.

This caused the database activated on another server.

And I got the message from SCOM, like this:

Namespace for Exchange 2003 ==> 2010 ==> 2013 Migration

$

Hi

Hope someone can help.  I am working on an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration, which will then quickly move onto a 2010 to 2013 migration and need some clarification on the namespaces to use.  I am aware that if I do not do this right at the 2003 to 2010 migration, this will cause a headache at the 2010 to 2013 migration.

Some background:

  • 2003 Functional Level Domain - 2 x 2008 DC's
  • Currently users are on a 2003 exchange cluster with a mix of RPC (internal users) and RPC over HTTP connections (roaming users)
  • We will be installing Exchange 2010 on a single server, with CAS, HUB and Mailbox roles and no load balancer, as we will be moving quickly to 2013.
  • We have two Kemp load balancers ready for Exchange 2013.
  • Exchange 2010 is installed on a single server (exh2010.domain.local) and configured with an CAS array name (exh-cas.domain.local) which is resolvable internally only.
  • Currently we have multiple smtp namespaces e.g. @company.com, @company2.com.
  • Our main website etc is www.company.com
  • Our public facing services are at https://service.mycompany.com
  • Our 2003 RPC address is https://webmail.mycompany.com

I understand that the 2010 RPC CAS array name should be separated from the Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTPS) address so that when 2013 takes over the HTTPS address, the RPC connections are not broken.

Two Questions:

  1. Do we have to use the HTTPS same namespace for 2013 as we do in 2010?  Its just I would want to test the Kemp load balancers before making them live (slow careful transition), and giving them a different namespace, e.g.https://mail.mycompany.com would allow a migration, rather then a cutover.
  2. Can we use the *.mycompany.com address rather then the company.com address, even though we have no SMTP addresses at mycompany.com?  Can autodiscover still work?

Thanks in advance for any guidance

Cheers

exchange 2013 not receiving emails

I'm not receiving emails (both internal and external) when on exchange 2013. I can send fine. This is both in outlook & OWA. As a workaround I've enabled anonymous users to connect to the default receive connector but I'm not too happy with leaving it as that

Hi All,

We are upgrading to Exch2010 in the next 3 months and then to Exch 2013 thereafter. At the moment we have Exch 2003 FE Server sitting on the internal LAN that host OWA so connections are allowed directly to the LAN. One of our seniour managers have a need to put OWA connections terminate in the DMZ.

Few Questions popped up

1. Is this best practice and recommended by Microsoft?

2. In this post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/35c03ed9-be08-4e21-9192-e2167eb79738/alternative-method-for-publish-owa?forum=exchangesvrgeneral I read that letting OWA connections through to your internal LAN just with a firewall NAT is OK and supported by Microsoft

3. If it is best practice to publish things like OWA, etc, what are the best solutions. Is it still worth while to go with TMG and then look for an alternative?

4. By implementing the ET Role in the DMZ does that not make up for some security and does Microsoft not OK that without a Reverse Proxy?

Looking forward to hear from you and the experience you have gained in the field

Thanks in advanced

Hi

I am looking for the solution in which I can access the single email address to have more than 15+ connections. Like for example there is email abc@test.com and want that email to be accessed simultaneously on 10 computers and 5+ mobile smartphones.

Please suggest which one would be best solution for that.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange Server 2003 issues AFTER moving DC 2003 to New DC 2012

I have moved Active Directory DC 2003 and all its FSMO roles to new 2012 R2 Datacenter Server. I have unchecked the GC option on old 2003. DC 2003 is still running without GC and has Exchange 2003 on it.

Netdom query verifies that all FSMO roles are now on new 2012 Server.

The New 2012 DC has different Server Name and IP address from old DC.

Eventually, I am planning to move 2003 Exchange to another 2012 Server with an upgrade to Exchange 2010 BUT for now, the Exchange Server 2003 which is installed on the same Server as Old 2003 DC having the following issues:

Exchange Information Store/MTA Stacks Services do not Start: Could not Start The Microsoft Exchange Event service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

Please help make proper adjustment for 2003 Exchange Server to make it functional. Any advice is appreciated.

PS. I do have the  dcdiag /q command on 2012 DC throw the following error but am not sure if this is Exchange related:

Unable to connect to the NETLOGON share! (\\MYSERVER\netlogon)

Error Event occurred. Event ID: 0x00000448

Event String:

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not apply the registry-based policy settings for the Group Policy Object LDAP://CN=Machine,CN={... CN=Policies, CN=System, DC=Domain,.....

Blocking email

I am running MES2007 on a network with Outlook loaded on the PCs.  One person who regularly wants to send email to the group from a home pc is finding that their emails never arrive - the Outlook spam filters are not picking them up, and the sender does not receive an error message.  Is it possible that MES is somehow blocking the email?  The senders address is from an orangehome account.
