Can someone help me find any documentation about Exchange migration best practices? Does Microsoft have any kind of documentation that pertains to general best practices/guidelines/common pitfalls to migrating from Exchange legacy to Exchange 2010 and or Exchange 2013???

we are beginning our upgrade from Exchange 2010 to 2013, I have deployed 3 new servers and everything seems to be working fine however I had a user call me to say that retention policy wasn't working correctly and I verified it with my own mailbox.
When I delete an email the 14 day count down is suppose to begin, and it does for emails received that same day and deleted that same day, well I just deleted an email from 3 days ago and it subtracted 3 days from the 14 day count down. I just deleted another one from 14 days ago and it is already marked as expired. Stuff is getting moved to soon.
I don't know that this has anything to do with the new 2013 servers but what could cause this?? I've had this policy in place for 2 years.

We currently have thumbnail pictures uploaded in the content database of SharePoint 2013 Mysite. We want to use the same pictures for Outlook & Lync, but we do not want to upload any picture in AD. Can we use those MySite pictures?

Hi everybody...
i have setup a new forest and domain with the following name
innf.org.iq
and my exchange server name is
exch.innf.org.iq
but i added an authoritative domain to my exchange server 2013 and set it to "innf.org", and also i set policy to use that authoritative domain. now when i send an email from any recipients within my organization to the internet (i.e yahoo, gmail , hotmail) i get the email received as follow :user@innf.org
everything is very well so far.
my hosted domain at go daddy is : "innf.org"
i read many articles about pointing godaddy to my exchange sevrer and how to set A host and MX record, but I'm still confused about the MX record field!! should i write my exchange server name FQDN in that field? or should i write it without the ".iq" so it mach the godaddy domain name? ?
if i do the A host and MX record, is that all what needed to make the exchange able to receive emails from the internet? or there anything else i should do in addition to that?
BTW i already configured the receive and send connectors.
please advice..

I have an issue with a fairly new Exchange 2013 (SP1) setup. Currently 5 Exchange Mailbox servers all part of a DAG. After backups run successfully, logs are not being truncated. I use HP Data Protector 8.0 (fully patched) with VSS integration. The backups run successfully from the App point of view, no errors. However the logs do not truncate. I get 2 confusing entries in the App event log on the Exchange MB servers:
ESE 225: Information Store - DB1 (16632) DB1: No log files can be truncated.
ollowd by: MSExchangeRepl 2046: The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer instance ac70fe72-4463-41a9-b47e-5c5e5d0c82a4 has successfully completed the backup of database 'DB1'.
Database log truncation has been requested for this database. Log truncation will occur on the active copy after the next log generation is created. Log truncation will occur automatically on the passive copies after that log file is copied.
No log files are truncated. This is backing up the ACTIVE copy of the DB.
When I manually run a backup via Windows Backup, I get the same results. No errors, ESE 225 and ESE 2046. Both ways I get a MSMQ 2230 event "A backup (components: registry, sysq, mapping, queue, storage) was completed successfully." and an ESE 2006 "Information Store - DB1 (16632) Shadow copy instance 15 completed successfully. " and MSExchangeRepl 2033 "The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer (Instance 80e81897-81d9-489d-ab11-b9f08126d737) has successfully processed the backup completion event." and MSExchangeRepl 2037 "The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer (Instance 80e81897-81d9-489d-ab11-b9f08126d737) backup has been successfully shut down."
This seems to be happening across all of my 2013 mailbox servers.

Hello. I have a exchange 2013 server. It's been working fine for the last year. I missed the email saying the certificate was expiring. Of course after that things went wrong big time. I got a new certificate installed and have made everything work again except pop3. (it was working fine before the certificate expiring.) I suspect I have just missed something. Not that there is a lot of things to configure in a pop connector.
Ran a test popconnectivity. It gives me a result: Failure; Error:pop error: -err server unavailable. 21
Any ideas?

We have a client with exchange 2010 and we just got a new SSL cert from Go Daddy and installed it. Weird thing is even before we ordered and installed that go daddy cert they were getting pop ups in out look for an expired cert which is from a place "asdl.newzealand.co.nz" when we are in Canada and I can't find anything anywhere that refers to that.
Can anyone please guide me where to start looking?

I am strungling the last 2 days trying to configure dag on exchnage 2010 SP2 between our primary and secondary site. Each site is on diferent subnet, each server has only one nic. I have tried alsmost everything(disable firewalls,restarts,dns,active directory,
delete end recreate the cluster, search the error on web, etc...) The erros i see are mentined below. Always the problem is when i try to add the second node. But i can add the second node as first node with no problem, always the problem is adding the second
node.

up untill now it was backedup with netapp snapmanager (and net backup was backing up thoth snapshots to disc by NDMP)
now we replaces our storage to HP 3par.
we would like to deploy 3par snapshot for exchange but there is no option to backup the snapshot with net backup (as we did with netapp).
is it OK to backup the exchange DB with both snapshot fo exchange and both net backup? is there going to be issue with the logs trunck from bothe of the backup applications? or with the VSS?

How to retrive a log that shows me the number of emails sent and received by one user in 24 hours interval in Exchange Online.Using "Message trace" from the portal will not help because we talk about a mailbox that is sending around 10k emails per day.

I have been asked to add some branding to the Outlook Webmail App for Exchange Server 2013 SP1. I have found a few sites that have said i can copy the default theme and then edit it. It says i need to go to this location on the CAS server C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\Owa\15.0.775.36\Owa2. Unfortantly there is no theme folder present only ext and scripts. Does anyone know where the themes folder is stored on 2013 SP1? any help would be much appreciated.

I have a dynamic distribution that I need to make sure it has the correct members in it, this needs to be updated at least once per day to stay accurate. Is there a way to do this without having to send an email to the group each time? This group is actually not used for email communication, rather I have some processes with our email archving software that run against the users that are members of the group, the processes run each night, and so the group needs to stay up to date with an accurate list of users so that the processes will be applied correctly and nobody gets missed.
Initially, I created the group with powershell, and it pulls all users that have mailboxes on 2 of my 4 exchange 2010 servers and populates them in the group.

I am going to update DC from Windows 2003 Sp2 to Windows 2012 R2 (Add a new Windows 2012 DC at first and turn off Windows 2003 DC after). Just think about our Exchange server, which is Exchange 2007 SP3 (08.03.0297.001) on Windows 2008R2 SP1. Do I need update Exchange to 2010 or I can keep it as is?

I'm looking to deploy Web App Proxy for OWA access into our Exchange server. Could I install it on the same box as our Edge Transport server which already sits in the DMZ?
