How does Exchange handle messages to legacy DN?

$

Possibly an odd question I know, but this has come up because of something we have noticed in our mail archiver (Jatheon)

We use alias@domain.com as our default email address, the alias matches the UPN.

Jatheon shows messages addressed to legacy DNs, but it also shows the messages are being sent to the users new DN as a BCC. Is this how Exchange handles emails sent to a legacy DN or alternate email address, i.e. BCC the default address?

Distribution Groups and User With Multiple Email Address

Hello,

I have an issue where a user has two email addresses attached to his account: johndoe@ex.com and 1489632750@vtext.com.  The first email listed is the primary one on the account but I would like both addresses to be used in a specific distribution list because the user does not have a smart phone and needs the information texted to him as well as emailed.

Any help will be much appreciated, thank you.

Deleting Certain Message Class

We currently use a managed folder policy that will delete all items in the Inbox folder but nothing in the subfolders of the Inbox.  Now we want to still delete everything in the Inbox but we want to delete items with the message class of IPM.Note.Worksite.EMS.Filed from all folders.  Is there a way to do this?  Right now I only see using a script to delete a certain message class but I'm sure how this script is supposed to behave.  http://blogs.technet.com/b/manjubn/archive/2012/03/31/exchange-2010-search-and-delete-items-by-messageclass-ews-method.aspx

Any ideas?

Wrong date in Exchange 2010 headers

Hello,

The "Date" offset is wrong in headers when I send an email from OWA (Exchange 2010 14.03.0174.001 Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 SP3).

There is no problem with internals emails, the "Date" has the correct GMT offset.

For example : I have sent an email at 3:50pm and the indicated date in headers is 1:50pm +0000 (instead of GMT+2 french offset).

Could you please help me ?

Stephane.

Exchange 2013 SP1 EDGE role content filtering ?

Hello,

Have Exchange 2013 SP1 with CU5 with antispam enabled on mailbox role server. And i wonder if i deploy 2013  Edge role, will i get more granular content filter control, like there is in Office 365? For example: i want to treat empty messages as not spam.

I have read that control of Edge server is done ONLY by powershell. So if edge role is deployed, still there is no content filter control in ECP (like in office365) ??

Restore missing mail

Time to show how much of a noob I am with Exchange 2013.

I have a user that deleted three weeks of email.  He would like to recover it.  Our backup software only allows for the restoration of the entire mailbox.

I know Exchange keeps deleted items for 14 days.  How do I restore from those deleted items?

Thanks.

Unable to open calendar if target user is offline.

Hi,

When trying to open the calendar of one of our users, a message box appears saying "Cannot display the folder. You do not have permission to log on.".  This only happens when the target user is offline, but it affects all other users; when he is online the calendar works without a problem.

The client is Outlook 2007, I have checked the calendar folder permissions and Default is set to Reviewer.

Thanks

Dan

Exchange Server 2010 Email Forwarding

I have a user who has left the company (User1) and we have a new user (User2) in that position.  The new user wants to receive user1's emails to his address.

In EMC, I have gone to the Properties of User2 and added a second SMTP addess of User1.  I have gone into User1's Properties and deleted the SMTP address.  I have rebooted the server and tested but it is still not working.  Secondly even though I have deleted the SMTP address in the User1 properties it is still receiving email.

1>Would I be better applying Email forwarding???

2>Why is User1 still receiving email even though I have deleted the SMTP information?

3>Any idea why this whole process is still not working?

432 4.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver; Agent transient failure during message resubmission

I am having an issue where emails to specific users internal to internal are being successfully delivered, but [a duplicate is?] also getting stuck in the "SMTP Delivery to mailbox" queue, with the sender getting a "Delivery is delayed to these recipients or groups:" "Remote Server returned '400 4.4.7 Message delayed" This only happens with emails to specific people in the organization, they get the email immediately after being sent, and everyone else works fine. This issue started after we migrated the users mailboxs from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 CU5, we did not notice the issue until we finished moving all user mailboxes to 2013.

Delivery Report of email to affected user:

Updated Office 2011 for Mac (14.4.1), cannot connect to Exchange server (Exchange 2007).

I updated Office 2011 for Mac to its 14.4.1 version and, out of the blue, it could not connect to the Exchange server anymore. At my office they use Exchange 2007 and I am the only Mac in the building. I've deleted the account and added it again countless times, and it reports username, password or security configuration issues.

I checked the HD (everything OK) and repaired the main identity (everything OK).

Still, I cannot get the color button to go from orange to green.

Hope someone can help.

email sent from user goes out as distribution list

I have an outlook/exchange 2013 user that states that they sent an email out as themselves but got delivered as being 'from' a distribution list.  I checked sent items and it shows as being sent from the distribution list.  But user states that they never changed 'from' field from themselves before sending.  is this a possible exchange bug of some kind?

arbitration (System mailbox) - is really big

We are doing a 2010 to 2013 migration, and when moving our arbitration mailboxes I noticed one of them has over 1,000,000 items in it, and it's been moving for 7 hours and counting. Is this normal? Why does this one particular mailbox have so many items in it? It has the ArbitrationRetention policy applied like it should.  How can I reduce the size of this mailbox?  It's only of one of them with the problem, one of the SystemMailboxes.  All the others are very small and moved quickly.

Configure Relay Connector on Exchange 2013 DAG Member

$

We have two exchange 2013 servers in a dag group and I just recently configured them with a relay connector. My question is, should a relay connector be configured for both of them or just one of them. I configured the connector on both servers because the whole point of the dag group is that if one server goes down, the other will continue on, but this seemed to cause major problems. All external messages were hung up most of the day until I deleted the receive connectors and restarted the transport service.

Do I only configure this on one server? If yes, does it matter which one? If it is only configured on one server, where is my redundancy? There just does not seem to be any information out there with regards to a relay connector and dag group members, so any information would be extremely helpful. I appreciate your assistance.

I accessed these two articles for information on how to setup the relay on Exchange 2013

http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2013-configure-smtp-relay-connector/

Exchange 2013 migration warning, cmdlet canceled

$

I have an Exchange 2013 SP1 on 2012 R2 and I get this warning migrating a users mailbox from 2010

Cmdlet cancelled. Cmdlet New-MoveRequest, parameters {TargetDatabase=XXXX, WhatIf=True, Identity=xxxxx BadItemLimit=3, BatchName=MigrationService:XXXX, CompletedRequestAgeLimit=7.00:00:00}.

I removed user info.

Looking here I see some similar postings but nothing in the way of an answer. It completes fine, no issues, but these warnings indicate something is off.

Any answer for this?

Choosing Exchnage Server Name

Hi All,

I am planning to install a new exchange server (Client Acces and Mailbox Roles on the same server.  I would like to give the server a meaningful name. Is there any naming conventions, etc? for example, if it was a domain controller, i would have named it CompanyNameDC01. Would you name the Exchange Server CompanyNameEX01 ,  or CompanyNameEXSVR01 or CompanyNameMailSVR01.

Your comments are highly appreciated.

Thanks.

DatabaseHealthCircLoggingProbe and Exchange 2013 SP1

$

Hi.

Since I update my servers to Exchange 2013 SP1, Managed Availability keep giving me an error about Circulator Logging is disabled. The exact error is “Database ********* has CircularLogging Disabled”. The HealthSetName is DataProtiection and the Monitor Name is DatabaseHealthCircLoggingMonitor.

I didn’t have those errors in previous CU.

I would like to understand why I have this error. I know that Circular Logging is disabled because we used a third-party backup solution (NetBackup 7.5.0.7) that currently backup our system and clear the log file. I assume that in the Office 365, Exchange is running with Circular Logging enabled but this “option” of managed availability should not have end-up in on-premise verion of Managed Availability.

Thank you for your answer.
