multiple first names

I want Outlook to resolve from Exchange, which I assume is where it happens, multiple first names, i.e. Robert Smith and Bob Smith, same guy, just goes by both names. So if I type Bob Smith or Robert Smith Outlook is able to resolve it both ways. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Custom attributes added to user objects not visible in OWA address book

Hi,

I am using Exchange 2013 and recently added a new custom attribute in the user object properties using the details template editor to be visible in the GAL  The new attribute is correctly getting displayed in the GAL from outlook clients but not visible in OWA address book. Is there a way to update the display of user objects in OWA address book to include the new custom attribute?

Exchange 2013 - Outlook RPC access issue

- OS: Windows 2012

- Exchange Server 2013 - Version 15.0 (Build 847.32)

- 2 mailbox, 2 cas

- ALL users experiencing issue are local (on the LAN)

- Outlook version; 2010 SP2 or newer.

Ok, this is a weird weird weird issue for us.  But, there doesn't seem to be any progress made with MS support and it's very random.  Relaunching outlook client doesn't help.

All Outlook clients were/are randomly losing access to the Exchange server.  This isn't some users but ALL users.  The RPC Client Access service runs remaining on all of the servers and none of them have any warning or error that logs before it's reported as an issue by the users.  Haven't seen it report the service being terminated and restarted like others have.  What makes it weird is that we need to restart the RPC service multiple times before the Outlook clients can connect.  I don't think it's necessarily a timing issue since the first few times we saw it, we restarted the service only once and it still wouldn't connect after 10 minutes.  OWA works the entire time -- so, we're pretty positive that this is outlook only.

The server was stable for about 3-4 weeks.  Then, last week, I was activating databases on the other mailbox server and noticed the RPC issue came up again.  Had to restart the service multiple times for it to resolve.  It happened again this morning.

In the process of troubleshooting, we've un-installed antivirus from the machine.

Other Things we've tried:

- Disabled Health Manager


Warning/Error logs (this is the only stuff that comes up)

MSEXCHANGE COMMON (4999)

(Active Manager) Database TR1 was successfully moved from

RPC Event Sequence when we restart the service because we noticed Outlook access has stopped.

- (MSEXCHANGERPC) Stopping the Microsoft Exchange RPC service manager. Managed services: MSExchangeRPC, MSExchangeAB.

- (MSEXCHANGERPC) Microsoft Exchange RPC service manager is terminating the process because the shutdown timeout of 5 seconds was exceeded.

- (MSEXCHANGERPC) Starting MSExchangeRPC service. Process ID 26372. Microsoft Exchange 15.00.0847.030.

- (MSEXCHANGERPC) Starting the Microsoft Exchange RPC service manager. Managed services: MSExchangeRPC, MSExchangeAB.

- (MSEXCHANGE COMMON - 106)  Performance counter updating error. Counter name is Time in Resource per second, category name is MSExchange Activity Context Resources. Optional code: 2. Exception: The exception thrown is : System.InvalidOperationException: Instance 'ad-microsoft.exchange.rpcclientaccess.service-microsoft.exchange.rpcclientaccess.service.exe' already exists with a lifetime of Process.  It cannot be recreated or reused until it has been removed or until the process using it has exited.

- (MSEXCHANGE COMMON - 106)  Performance counter updating error. Counter name is Delay Time Threshold, category name is MSExchange User WorkloadManager. Optional code: 3. Exception: The exception thrown is : System.InvalidOperationException: Instance 'rca' already exists with a lifetime of Process.  It cannot be recreated or reused until it has been removed or until the process using it has exited.

And, 1 minute later, the same sequence of events after the RPC service is restarted again because Outlook still isn't working.

Exchange 2013 (lab): emails stuck in OWA Drafts

Hello I have setup for testing purposes an Exchange 2013 CU5 on a 2012R2 which is also DC and DNS.Network wise I have two virtual interfaces one for the internal network (10.10.10.x/24) and another one linked to the Ethernet physical interface of my computer which gets its properties from DHCP (usually my gateway router).

Everything seem to work normally but when I try to send emails to the outside world I only get a copy of it inside the Drafts folder. :-)

I thoroughly checked the DNS service (inside the Exchange too), A, PTR records and SOA, I tested the DNS server and nslookuped some internet addresses all resolving fine.The DNS service registers both interfaces DNS servers (the internal one which is the DC and the external one which comes through DHCP).

Through Test-ServiceHealth in Exchange Management Shell I checked all required services are up and running.

With Setspn -Lhostname  I verified all required services are registered correctly on my server.

I also checked Event Viewer and besides some performance counters errors about exchange nothing else in there too.

I haven't registered an MX record because I don't need to receive mail just to send in that  early stage.Am I right in that?

Any ideas are welcome and thanks in advance.

Exchange Server Modify Sent E-mail (Internal)

Hello!

I'm curious about a possible function of exchange.  Is there any way in which to modify the body of an e-mail, once sent and viewed by others, within Exchange?  I am not the exchange admin but am a system admin at my company but I have strong reason to believe that one of our Exchange Admins may have attempted to make such modifications.  I am curious if this is possible and if so, how would I audit/check for any changes?  Thank you for your time.

Enable second OWA site with form based authentication

Hi,

I'm performing a configuration for a 2nd OWA site, that will use form based authentication.
The default owa site uses integrated authentication.

I've created a second site, and used new-owavirtualdirectory and new-ecpvirtualdirectory to create the OWA and ECP VDirs in the new site.
I've made binding on port 999 (https)

I then copied the OWA and ECP directories located in H:\Exchange Server\V15\FrontEnd\HttpProxy (the ones from the first site), and renamed them owa2 and ecp2

I then changed the paths of OWA and ECP on the new site to these locations.

When I then configure basic authentication, everything is working as expected (prompt > insert credentials > OK), but when I use form based, I get redirected to https://owa.customer.com/owa/auth.owa, and then receive a "bad request" error after logging in via the form.

Free/Busy not working Exchange 2007 and 2013 co-existence

Hi,

I'm migrating our Exchange 2007 environment to Exchange 2013. Now I am in a co-existence environment where all the mailboxes except some test-users resides on Exchange 2007. Between Users on the same Exchange MBX Server athe FREE/BUSY Information sharing works correctly, but between Exchange 2007 and 2013 it's not working.

I verified my settings and also the EWS virtual directory on 2007 CAS Servers using Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory. The internal and the external URLs are set to https://legacy.mydomain.com/....

What am I missing?

Outlook Voice Access on Exchange 2013

Hi

Does anyone know if there is an equivalent version of the "Quick Start Guide for Outlook Voice Access" for Exchange 2013.

I can only find the Exchange 2010 version http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20772

I found the technet article here, but this is not very user friendly to email around to new starters.

Custom MailTip for Restricted Recipients

How do you force a custom mailtip to also show when a restricted recipient mailtip is showing? I created one but only users who are not restricted can see it.

By default, custom MailTips aren't displayed if the sender isn't allowed to send to that recipient. In that case, the Restricted Recipient MailTip is displayed. However, you can change this configuration and have the custom MailTip also display.

Hello,

Hoping someone could help with this error im getting. When i do a mailbox move from 2010 to 2013 using the 2013 Gui. I get an error saying ......

Cannot open mailbox /o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=EXCHANGE/cn=Microsoft System Attendant.

Environment details are: 

DC 2008r2

Exchange 2010 on 2008 r2

Exchange 2013 on 2008 r2

Has any come across this before?

Reconnect disabled archive mailbox

Hi

Im trying to reconnect a disabled archive mailbox. Im following this guide http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj651146(v=exchg.150).aspx

but when running the command "connect-mailbox ...." i get the following error:

Shutting down secondary DAG node

Two Exchange servers setup in a DAG.

I need to expand the log VM on our secondary Exchange server (2013). I am very new to DAG Exchange administration. I am aware there are scripts to initiate DAG maintenance. I am just curious if this can be safely accomplished by going through the steps below?

  1. Suspend each mailbox db through EAC on the primary Exchange server
  2. Shutdown the secondary
  3. Expand the log VM
  4. Boot up the secondary Exchange server
  5. Resume DAG replication through Primary EAC

Hi, I am new to exchange servers. I have just successfully installed exchange 2013 on a hyper-v machine. i have been able to create a couple of mailboxes on an exchange server. Assuming i want to create another exchange server, how would i go about doing that?

Hi,

I am using Exchange server 2013.

I have 10 users in my server. All the users Mail Box permission has been given to one user [david@admin.com].

Now I need to create new contact in user1@admin.com using EWS managed API , but i don't have password of user1.

we can easily create contact if we have username and password . but i don't have password.

Full Mailbox permissions of user1@admin.com has given to david@admin.com.

I need to do this using EWS Managed API.

How can i do this ?

Mail enabling users based on ou and sec group membership

Hello, E2013CU5 here.

i have several OUs in AD and inside them there are "generic users" which idon't want to mail enable when bulk enabling mailboxes for the first time.

How do i mass enable users filtering by OU AND group membership or some other kind of easily set atttribute?.

To test i already made a security group in the OU "laboral" and added the users

researching hasn't shown a clear way to do this.

I tried different permutations of get-user with filters based on OU and group membership, it comes out empty every time:

if i try with -ne "string"$ then it's as if nothing exists because it shows the smae output with or without that statement

I then tried to filter by adding a description text(which is easy to do in ADUC as it's one of the values that can be mass edited) but "description" is not a valid -filter type!, and custom attributes cannot(AFAIK) be mass added by selecting and then right clicking-properties

So how can i do this?

Critical! After O365 E2013 Hybrid enable - external mail receive stops!

Hi everyone.

This is quite critical, as all our organization inbound e-mail has stopped working!

After enabling Hybrid on Exch2013 / O365, All inbound emails from external domains has stopped working!

- Internal e-mails Works fine.

- Sending to external/internal Works fine.

I am seeing the following error in the Exch2013 event logs for every 3 seconds (and it started as emails stopped/the same time hybrid configuration was completed):

Event ID 36869 - Error - Schannel

"The SSL server credential's certificate does not have a private key information property attached to it. This most often occurs when a certificate is backed up incorrectly and then later restored. This message can also indicate a certificate enrollment failure."

I hope that some of you can be of urgent assitance?
