Exchange 2013 SP1. I have about 30 databases in a 4 server DAG, with half the DBs on servers 1 and 2 and the other half on 3 and 4. All copies show healthy. When I run Get-MailboxDatabase–Status | ft name,last* -auto it shows the last full and incremental backups as about a month ago, despite many successful backups since then, according to Arcserve anyway. And, log files are not truncating. Any ideas?

I am getting event id 1022 error 1245 for a mailbox/user account that I cannot find on my mail server or AD. Is there a ‘deeper’ search I can do besides ‘get-mailbox’?

Hi Everyone,
I am using Exchange Server 2007 SP3, i want to do the transition to Exchange Server 2013 SP1,
1.Before proceeding with installation Should i disable ipv6 on Exchange 2007SP3 and Can i also disable
ipv6 on Exchange 2013(My Environment is ipv4)
Earlier i had an issue when i upgraded Exchange SP1 to SP3 i had disabled ipv6 and my information store service
was not running until i enabled ipV6
2.Should i enable Windows Authentication in IIS(for RPC)(for active sync authentication).

Or should we first upgrade destination Exchange 2010 to 2013?

Exchange 2013 Backups Failing - Microsoft Exchange Writer
We're on Exchange 2013 CU5. DPM Exchange backups started to fail after applying patches to our database server. We can successfully back up databases when we fail the DBs over to another DAG member. But we cannot back up databases that are active on our primary DAG member.
Here's the event we receive when the backup fails:
A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f4, The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried,
the error is likely to reoccur.
. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer.

I'm running Exchange 2013 sp1. I need to search for emails that contain a specific phrase, delete the emails and log the results. I have come up with two different commands, but not sure which one is better to use.

Cannot Add Database Copy
Exchange 2013 SP1. Both servers are hyper-v2012r2. No NIC teaming. Each exchange vm has 2 NIC's; 1 with a client side facing NIC, 192.168.123 network (MAPI) and 1 for replication only, 10.1.1. ECP shows the 10.1.1 network as up. I have pre-staged and configured
the replication NIC (dns register unchecked and the nic does not have a gateway). I think this is where the problem comes in. I can not ping 10.1.1.2 from the 10.1.1.3 server and cannot ping 10.1.1.3 from 10.1.1.2 server. It doesn't seems like I would have
to add a route but it seems to be using the 192.168 network. Below is a diagram of the network setup we have. The ip's/networks are different than ours but the same topology exists. What am I doing wrong?![]()

Outlook Anywhere keeps changing Authentication methods!
I recently migrated from 2010 to 2013 I2010 server is still up and running, I will be decommissioning it next week.
We have many users external to the office / network and Outlook Anywhere was setup using Basic authentication. I set it to use basic again on 2013, but this caused all sorts of havoc. I had to go around and change the authentication methods on most of the Outlook profile.
a few questions:
the Outlook profiles in the office were set to 'Connect using HTTPs even on fast networks'.... What controls this setting?? it keeps coming back!
I have a few clients that their account settings keep reverting back top basic, so they get prompted for passwords when they open Outlook. if I change it to negotiate, it works fine. Again this morning these same 2 clients had their settings change!... what is changing these settings? I figured I would ask before creating a new profile (they use cache mode and it would take several hours to sync the accounts!

Exchange 2013 - Duplicate Message Detection
Hi,
I am trying to resend an email from my spam firewall but it is not reaching the user. The duplication detection on the server is not allowing me to resend. If I go back older than a month I was able to successfully resend from the spam firewall.
How do I temporally disable the duplicate message detection on Exchange 2013 server?
I found this from someone else for 2013 but I did not have this path in my registry:

Exchange 2013 ECP 500 unexpected error
I have gone through the forum but can't get the same exact issue like mine. I have 3 CAS servers and two of them are ok, only one is giving me an error when trying to login to ECP, I have no problem login to OWA. In most of the threads it says to use ADSI edit to clean up ms-Exch-Canary-Data-0, ms-Exch-Canary-Data-1 and ms-Exch-Canary-Data-2 but I am scared that I might loose the other two CAS servers as well. I have removed ECP virtualdirectory and created a new one, rebooted the server but the same issue. Exchange 2013 CU6
The error is: 500 Unexpected error :(

Exchange 2013 storage options
In Exchange 2013 multiple database per volume support has been introduced, what i need to clarify is if RAID is officially supported. i can't see any reason why it shouldn't but unfortunately there's not any hint about in the official TechNet article (In the article they specifically say: "Multiple databases per volume is a new JBOD scenario"):

Another question is about the number of database i should deploy on a single volume. In the following article, Scott shows us 4 databases per volume on a "how many databases per volume as the number of databases copies in the DAG" basis. Now in a DAG i can have up to 16 copies for a DB: can i have up to 16 databases per volume? is it just an IOPS matter?

This is Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013 CU2 co-exsistance. All mailboxes migrated to 2013, except for Public Folders (which fail to migrate due to separate issue) eevrything is on 2013 CU2.
I am not sure why it keeps referring to 2010.

how or where is the HOMEMDBDN
I trying to understand how or when HOMEMDBDN is created for a user in the Exchange/AD.
I been researching an issue with MAPI/CDO notification "ADVICE()" call and the HOMEMDBDN is used.

Mailboxes in another forest
I'd like to ask what are my options on a scenario described here:
- Two AD forests without any trusts between (let's call em old and new)
- Old has users and Exchange 2000
- New has the same users (with new samaccountnames) and Exchange 2013
- There's no need to migrate boxes from 2000 to 2013, .pst files can do this
- There's a firewall between these two forests, this can although be handled
- Name resolving is in Place and both old can resolve DNS names for the systems in the new and vice versa
I'd like the users who are still using the Old AD to start using the Exchange 2013 mailbox (and addressbook with it's distribution groups) they have in the New AD (and kill the old Exchange 2000 once and for all). What are my options? Is there trust needed between the old and new AD forest? Can it be configured so that user's wouldn't be prompted for username/password when they use their new mailbox (which is in the new AD) from old AD?

S/MIME lookup works for ActiveSync, but not OWA.

However, I found that SMIME seems to have been working all along. From one mobile, I'm able to encrypt and send, and the other I'm able to encrypt and send. Both mobiles decrypt using their respective certificates. Why would this work for ActiveSync, but OWA simply cannot lookup the user's certificate or tells me no certificates were found for recipients. Are they matching different criteria somehow? I know that the user definitely has a valid certificate for the fact that ActiveSync is able to retrieve the public keys.
