OAB and GAL Not Updating

hi,

Client using Exchange 2010 on SBS2011.

A client is complaining that the GAL is not updating. they have tried deleting the oab in outlook folder, it creates a new oab with new/updated users and after a while it returns to the old oab. they updated the OAB from MMC but GAL did not update.

they have tried manually updating it on the client side in outlook but in vail.

Exchange services also do not start automatically after reboot. i gave them the option to change the services to automatically delayed but pop3 service does not start.

any suggestions?

Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexisting in separate trusted AD Forests, same email domain.

Im in a bind here.

Here is my scenario: We have domain 1, lets call this old-domain.corp that has an exchange server 2010 with MBX, CAS and HT role. We created a new domain, lets call this new-domain.corp that we migrated all our users AD accounts using ADMT from our old domain to our new-domain.corp.  We have both domains trusted two way, and we converted all our mailboxes on our old exchange 2010 server in our old domain to “linked mailboxes” with the owners of the mailboxes belonging to their new-domain.corp accounts.  This all works well currently.

What im trying to do now is have mailboxes live natively in the new-domain.corp on the new exchange 2013 server (only MBX role) I just built, whilst still having mailboxes working on our old-domain.corp while we migrate the mailboxes to the new.  What is the best way to achieve this?  Right now I can create new mailboxes on the new server and send emails (using owa), but receiving is an issue since once mail is routed to my exchange 2010 (old) server it doesn’t keep going to the new exchange 2013 server.

Some details

  • Exchange 2010 – old-domain.corp – MBX, CAS, HT – latest rollup and exchange updates as of a week ago.
  • Exchange 2013 – new-domain.corp trusted two way with old domain - MBX
  • 140 users - Single email domain name space
  • All on premise

Trying to Get SMTP working with exchange 365.

We are running exchange 365 and I'm trying to figure out how to get smtp working.  We have printers that users will use sometimes to send emails. Does anyone know how to get it configured to work correctly?  Also with legacy apps that just call the smtp server name, and defaults to port 25 how does that work with exchange online using port 587?

Planning , Designing, implementing and Migrating from Exchange 2010 to 2013

Hi All,

We are in planning phase to implement Exchange 2013 Server in our infra, we already have Exchange 2010. Our bottom line is to Migrate to 2013 and decomm 2010 server.

Current Infra MS EXCH 2010 - 3 Server Holding MBX,CAS,HT Roles / 1 dedicated OWA server for external owa/ 1 Journaling server / reverse proxy/ F5 Load Balancer.

Proposed Infra MS EXCH2013 (PROD) - 3 MBX (dedicated) 2 CAS (for extarnal owa as well)/(Using the Same journaling server 2010 as only 2010 server)  /reverse proxy/ F5 Load Balancer.
Proposed DR 2013:- 2 MBX and 1 CAS

We plan to reduce the cas servers 50% as 2103 CAS is not doing much as compared to 2010 its just proxing the request.
So just wanted to check does this module seems fine when we are reducing the CAS server to 50% will it accpet load for both users externally and internally.

Full access permission Group

Hello all,

I had this case yesterday:

I create a new mailbox and a new group for the full access permission.

The groups was added to the full access permission of the mailbox.

Then i added the users to the group.

The users could added the mailbox to outlook but when they try to expand expand the mailbox folder in outlook they get the following error: Cannot expand mailbox

Today with out any change they can expand the mailbox.

Why?

Does a sync run to allow the user to connect to the mailbox?

Transport rule with custom dsn

Hi

Our environment: Exchange Server 2013 CU6 - DAG

I created a custom dsn: New-systemMessage -dsnCode 5.7.15 -Internal $False -Language en -Text "Custom text"
Then I created a transport rule which reject mails to a test user with enhanced status code 5.7.15.

The Mail is rejected with the status code 5.7.15, but without the custom message. I configured it on Exchange 2010 and it worked. In the meantime we made a transition to Exchange 2013. I don't know how long it doesn't work, I just figured it out because I had to configure another one and that one doesn't work as well.

Even if I configure a new transport rule which rejects mails to a test user with "Reject the message with the explanation", and as explanation I put in "Sorry" the mail gets rejected with status code 5.7.1 but no text,

Any suggestions?

CAS Server Returned in Autodiscovery Information

Hi,

I’m in the process of designing a new Exchange 2013 implementation for our business and I’m trying to get my head around something that I’m hoping someone here may be able to clarify for me.

My design will consist of multiple AD sites with a single CAS and MBX (collocated) in each. In regards to autodiscovery process I understand that the autodiscovery site scope parameter will/should point Outlook to a local CAS to retrieve the autodiscover information. However the bit I don’t understand is what CAS server/s will be returned in the autodiscovery information (XML) that Outlook will then use to connect to. Will it be a local (site where Outlook client is located) CAS server?

Please note the InternalURL for the CAS servers will be their FQDN, there is no plan to use high availability for the CAS servers.

Exchange 2013 errors in eventlog 1039, 4999, 1007, 7031

Hi,

we have a new Exchange 2013 Server (Cas+Mbx) CU6 on Server 2012 R2 with the following four error-events in eventlog (about every 30 minutes). I didnt find any information about it so maybe someone know's the cause for it? (its a german server so I hope the information are enough to recognize)

Exchange 2013 public folders auditing

I am interested in finding out when last time public folder was accessed and by who.

If it is possible also when item (document for example) was last time accessed and by who.

I have found article about ex 2007

All I have found regarding to Ex 2013 that mailbox auditing for PF do not work.

“Does mailbox audit logging work against public folders?

Do such auting exist in ex 2013 as in ex 2007?

Is it possible to have a specific delivery message on a disabled mailbox in Exchange 2010?

I was recently asked to disable a shared mailbox at work in order to consolidate two.  The user is requesting that if anyone emails the disabled account, that a message appears letting the user know to use the other email address.  Is this possible? If so, how?

Customizing Exchange 2013 SP1 OWA logon page

Hello!

I'm trying to customize OWA logon page as explained here:

...but after changing Favicon icon and OWA_Test_Blue.png nothing has changed.

I then deleted the 'resources' folder completely and tried to logon to OWA page again - it's still there:

Is it possible that the content of the logon page is NOT in the \Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\FrontEnd\HttpProxy\owa\auth\Current\themes\resources folder?

Give an operation admin access to manage "another user" using ECP.

I have an operational admin that needs to be able to manage other users mailboxes using ECP to set the out of office messages.

When he logs into ECP, he does not have the option to manage "another user".  Where is this specific permission given?  Which specific permission is needed?

OAB from Exchagne 2007 to Exchange 2013

Hi everyone, I am using Exchange server 2007 SP3 and i want to do the transition to Exchange 2013 SP1,
My Exchange is installed on Domain Controller.
I want to set OAB to default before proceeding to Exchange 2013 SP1 but i am not able to so please help me with the synatx and guide me.

Attempting to copy mailbox - Error: A secure channel could not be established

I am experiencing a problem with databases across a DAG.

Two Mailbox Servers, MBX1 and MBX2. MBX1 has 5 databases, MBX2 has 4. I am trying to copy the 5th database to MBX2, but I get the following error:

Error: An error occurred while communicating with server 'MBX1'. Error: A secure channel could not be established. [Database: Mailbox Database 5, Server: MBX2.domain.com]

I also see each of the passive mailboxes on MBX1 frequently change to 'Passive Disconnected and Healthy' and shows bad copy unit 1. It's like this for a few seconds, then goes back to normal.

In testing, I activated one of the passive copies on MBX1. The transfer succeeded, but when I tried to reactivate that copy on MBX2, I get these errors:

Error: The database action failed. Error: The database was not mounted because it has experienced data loss (2 logs) as a result of a switchover or failover, and the attempt to copy the last logs from the source server failed. Please check the event log for more detailed information. Specific error message: Attempt to copy remaining log files failed for database Mailbox Database 1\MBX2. 

Error: The Microsoft Exchange Replication service failed to determine if the log files in database 'Mailbox Database 1' are divergent from the source copy on server 'MBX1.domain.com'. 

Error: An error occurred while communicating with server 'MBX1'. Error: A secure channel could not be established. [Database: Mailbox Database 1, Server: MBX2.domain.com]

The Copy Queue length is 5 and counting.

Restarting the MS Exchange Information Store

Exchange 2013 SP1 with 2 member server DAG. We installed the 2nd member server product key and need to restart the information store. What is the proper way to restart the information store with a DAG?

The dag member that needs to have the information store restarted is hosting a passive copy of the DB. From what I am reading, it looks like maintenance mode only needs to be set on the server hosting the active copy?

I am getting legitimante emails that are getting greylisted when they hit my exchange server;

a lot of people are saying i need to introduce a spam filter, will this resolve my issue ? or can i disable it in exchange ?

Editing CheckDatabaseRedundancy.ps1

Exchange 2013 with 2 member DAG. We want to have the checkdatabaseredundancy.ps1 script monitor our DAG and send an email to admins with reports of the monitoring. I see you need to edit the Send-HANotificationMailCorpHub function and/or the Get-SmtpClients function. Question is, how do you do this correctly? When i supply a string, the script gives me a red mark as if something is wrong. Example:

See the red squiggly line between the comma and the "E"? How exactly do i enter the info into this script? Should there be a "$" in front of my edits?
