Outlook Anywhere - the name cannot be matched to a name in the address list

Hi all

I have installed and configured Exchange 2013 for multi tenancy.

  • Three MBX/CAS Servers
  • Two IIS ARR Servers for External Access
  • Edge Transport Server
  • DAG File Share Witness

Everything works, except Outlook Anywhere internally, which gives me the following error:

Check Name Error

All my virtual directories are configured to use the same URL's internally and externally.

  • Internally they resolve directly to two of the three CAS/MBX servers (using DNS round-robin),
  • Externally they resolve to two Reverse Proxy Servers (IIS ARR), also using DNS round-robin.

I have configured the following for each Tenant:

  • Global Address List
  • “All Rooms” address list
  • “All Users” address list
  • “All Contacts” address list
  • “All Groups” address list
  • Offline Address Book
  • E-mail address policy
  • Address Book policy

I have verified that all users are members of "Default Global Address List", and also the custom Tenant Address List.

Running the "Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer", things looks fine (both local version and browser one).

Help is highly appreciated! :)

Free-busy info

Hi,

We have 3 exchange servers (XCHANGE1,2,3), all running Exchange 2013, all having CAS roles in production, XCHANGE 1 and 2 forming a DAG (mailbox role installed). We have 3 mailbox datastores activated as follows: MBXSTORE1 activated in XCHANGE 1 and MBXSTORE2 and 3 activated in XCHANGE2. All mailbox stores have a passive copy in the other exchange server. The problem is that people pertaining to stores activated in XCHANGE2 cannot see (greyed-out with white stripes) the free/busy info, in Outlook 2010 clients, for users in datastore MBXSTORE1 activated in XCHANGE1. However, people in MBXSTORE1 are able to check free-busy information of all users, irrespective of whether they pertain to a store or another. Moreover, inside each datastore all users can check this free-busy info for other users in the same datastore. When activating MBXSTORE1 in XCHANGE 2, then all users from the remaining datastores are able to check free/busy info for users in MBXSTORE1. So it seems a problem related to one-way availability of this info in XCHANGE1 server.

Any idea how we could solve this issue,

Thanks!

Search a users mailbox for a "missing" email

Is there a command line or script used to locate an email that a user claims was moved or never came in, yet the server states it was delivered?

I am basically looking for a way to search a users mailbox thru command or powershell and have it display the folder/path in Outlook where the message was dragged to accidentally.

I tried the Search-Mailbox -Identity "Fred Flintstone" -SearchQuery 'from:BarneyR@BedrockQuarryandGravel.com' but I don't want to delete or export the message, just find the path where its located in Outlook.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 servers not sharing Free / Busy

Some of the users on EXMB01 are not able to see users calendar Free / Busy information on EXMB02.

In our exchange 2013 (CU5) environment the following server: mailbox EXMB01 and EXMB02, CAS EXCAS01, EXCAS02 and EXCAS03. Server are Windows server 2012, mail domain is mail.domain.com and does not match our internal network of local.domain.xyz (Non standard was setup before me).  All setting point to mail.domain.com for mail configuration.  External cert from a CA was added to all three CAS servers.

USER1 on EXMB01

USER2 on EXMB02

USER3 on EXMB02

Was able to get USER1 to see a USER3 can see all Free/Busy, subject, location now (only set the Free/Busy time) .  Added USER02 see Free / Busy, subject, location (also only set Free/Busy time). Added my own calendar to the USERS01 to the USERS01 outlook and can see my Free/Busy, subject, location.  I only have by default Free/Busy time set no one else added.

What settings to I check first? Is their a PowerShell command to reset a users calendar permissions?  Is something not set correctly on the servers?

Microsoft Exchange 2013 eDiscovery - specific search query: looking for specific hyperlinks within e-mails content/body

Dear all:

I am currently using the MS Exchange 2013 eDiscovery feature with the objective to identify which of my users have received emails containing specific hyperlinks (e.g. http://website1/webroot/file.zip, http://website2/webroot/file.zip, etc.) from an unknown sender.

To this end, I have been creating an eDiscovery on-hold case looking for a specific search criteria in all mailboxes.

As the search criteria, I have tried many options but was unable to obtain satisfying results: I know I am missing some e-mails from this specific search (I checked manually). I have notably tried the following search queries (with and without the body: search operator, with and without double quotes, etc.)

body:http://website1/* OR body:http://website2/*

body:"http://website1/*" OR body:"http://website2/*"

body:"website1*" OR body:"website2*"

body:"*website1*" OR body:"*website2*"

[...]

When replaying these queries on my local Outlook client, everything works fine and I get results as expected.

However, when going through the ECP eDiscovery feature, I am missing some results.

Therefore, I am looking for any advice on what Exchange eDiscovery KQL query I should use to identify all emails containing, in their message body, a list of specific hyperlinks/URLs.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Mailbox move performance slow - Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

$

I have around 1000 mailboxes on a single Exchange 2007 mailbox server.  I am moving batches of about 30 mailboxes a day and it's taking a full 24 hours to complete. The target Exchange Environment is Exchange 2013 with 4 servers (2 CAS and 2 DAG) members for redundancy in the same site at as the 2007 servers. Everything is connected by 10GB infrastructure. h servers have 16GB of ram and back onto an EMC array of disks. I have not run through the exchange sizing calculator yet. But did run the jet stress tool before moving client mailboxes over.

During the moves some of the mailboxes are dropping into a stalled state, but will resume and complete. The concern I have however is that there is only about 1GB of mail being moved an hour. I expect that exchange 2013 may be throttling the move somewhat but do see 10 - 15 mailboxes in the batch reporting copying messages.

Questions

1, Can I increase the performance of the moves by changing throttling settings for the mailbox moves?

2, I am currently running a EXBPA performance 2 hour performance check on the Exchange 2007 server, would there be something equivalent to run on the 2013 servers without diving into perfmon counters?

Just wanting to identify the cause of the slow performance.

Thanks

PST Capture error when trying to import .PST files

$

I am currently migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 on prem.  I have installed PST Capture 2.0 and 64-bit Outlook 2013 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine and have installed the PST Capture 2.0 agent on a workstation that has some .pst files on it.  PST Capture finds all the .pst files on the workstation, but when I use PST Capture to try to import PST files into a mailbox on Exchange 2013, I get the error "Import error: Error opening mailbox username@mycorp.com".

I created a userID with a mailbox to run PST Capture.  Based on the instructions at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh781035%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx I have made that user a member of the groups that are assigned the Public Folder Management role, the Mailbox Import Export role and the Organizational Management role.  The user is also a local admin on the machine running the PST Capture console.  While the error sounds like a permissions issue, these are the only permissions I could find documented for PST Capture.  I am starting PST Capture with "Run as administrator"

Any ideas why this isn't working?  Are there any other permissions that the PST Capture user needs?  Is there anything else I need to do?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi

We have 3 servers ( Say ServernameA,ServernameB,Server nameC) and databases shared equally and we have 4 farms with same mutli role . Off late, We are getting complaints stating Outlook is frozen for few. Since all the 3 servers are multirole with 12 servers.

It is hard to see, Which server is causing an issue. Do we have any tools to isolate the exact servers.

X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxOfflineException

Hello!

Today I've bumped into a strange issue, when finishing installation of Exchange Server 2013SP1: the first time I open ECP it opens successfully, the second - it shows (after entering login/password) the following:

X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxOfflineException
X-OWA-Version: 15.0.847.32
X-FEServer: EXCH1
X-BEServer: EXCH1
Date: 4/17/2015 2:56:46 PM

I have two host machines on which I'm testing various server/network configurations and I used these hosts/VMs many times for the various Exchange installations and I've never seen such issues. All my steps are:

1) Install DC (vm)
2) Install Exchange 2013 SP1
3) Run ECP for the first time = ok
4) Close ECP
5) Run ECP for the second time = error (I have even never rebooted the server after finishing installation)
.....

6) Run ECP for the n-th time = ok (optionally)

I reinstalled DC and Exchange VMs twice  - the result is the same...

???

Thank you in advance,

Michael

Hi All,

I have an Exchange 2013 server which is now redundant following a migration to Office 365.  I'd like to remove Exchange from the server but I can't find an official Microsoft document stating the correct way to achieve this.  Can someone please let me know if such a document exists, or if not what is the recommended way of removing Exchange.

Thank you

Jonathan

About Exchange server 2010

Gentlemen,

I have a small query about exchange 2010.

In my domain having 2000 users, all are connecting to head office exchange server which is located in different country. In my case users doesn't have dedicated machines, so they used to swap their seats on daily basis and re configuring emails which creates huge bandwidth issue. To avoid this situation do we have any alternate option (local exchange server which is not possible right now-hence please avoid this) where we can enable so the all clients can receive emails from location server.

I tried few pop/imap client which is not giving me desired results , i mean categories cannot work, flags cannot work.

Do we have any option using which i can download emails for defined email ids to local server and can distribute emails to the clients.

Removing a default database

$

Hello!

One more strange issue: in all my deployments of Exchange Server 2013SP1 I always start from removing a default mb database and I never had any problems with it. The procedure is ~ as follows:

1) I create a new mailbox db.
2) Get-Mailbox –Arbitration | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “NewDB”
3) Get-Mailbox –Monitoring| New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “NewDB”
4) Get-Mailbox | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “NewDB”

5) Make sure Administrator account has been moved to the new db.

6) Delete the default db.
7) Restart
8) Log on to ECP as Administrator.

Today the two new installations end up  with the following error on 8)  "Log on to ECP as Administrator":

The IIS log shows this:

"2015-04-17 13:56:17 fe80::191b:2b21:3254:ddd%12 POST /owa/auth.owa &CorrelationID=<empty>;&cafeReqId=8bb165df-6c57-49f0-9ee9-9590c6f981db; 443 TestCompany\Administrator fe80::191b:2b21:3254:ddd%12 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows+NT+6.3;+WOW64;+Trident/7.0;+rv:11.0)+like+Gecko https://exch1.testcompany.com/owa/auth/logon.aspx?replaceCurrent=1&url=https%3a%2f%2fexch1.testcompany.com%2fowa 500 0 0 15"

Looks like the Administrator's mailbox has not been moved into the new database, butGet-MoveRequest and Get-Mailbox... showed that Administrator's mailbox was really in the new db.

Moreover, right after deletion of the default db (after item 6) I signed out from ECP and logged back to it - the logon was successfull (at this moment the default database had been already deleted!). And only after restarting the server it started showing this error.

While logged on as Administrator I created one more exchange administrative user account in the new db - it doesn't experience any issues with logging on to ECP.

No errors show in any Windows logs.

What should I check in this situation?

Thank you in advance,

Michael

Exchange server 2003 org decomission before DirSync with office365

Hi,

I am looking to do DirSync of passwords between local and office365 domain.  I have migrated all exchange services to office365 a couple of years ago, but still have old exchange 2003 server.

I plan to completely decommission and remove the exchange organization.

Question is once that is done, is there any concern about using DirSync?  I thought that all attributes will sync during this process, so not sure if I could possibly be removing attributes that are needed as the exchange 2003 organization is removed, which in turn can maybe cause sync issues with my current office365 production environment.

I do not run any type of hybrid setup, and not looking to do Single-Sign-On, I am only attempting to sync passwords with specific accounts.

Can I safely uninstall and remove my exchange 2003 organization (a single 2003 exchange server)?

Thank you

Hey,

To start I'm running Exchange 2010, not 2013. But am running Office 2013. (So Outlook 2013)

I was wondering if it was possible to set a picture for email addresses that are external.

Like any person email account (yahoo, Hotmail, live, gmail, etc)...

I tried googling but I came up so dry, literally couldn't find a single post about it...

Removing exchange 2003 organization from 2003 Domain

Hello,

My company has fully migrated to Office365 (NOT Hybrid environment) from a local environment consisting of a single domain with a single exchange 2003 server.

Now I will be upgrading the domain to 2012, but I plan on removing the 2003 exchange organization first, before I upgrade domain to 2012.

Would this be the best approach?  Will this remove any needed the exchange attributes?

Thank you

Dynamic Groups - Department + Custome attribute 11 not working

$

I’m using Exchange 2013 and our environment has several dynamic distribution lists. I’m using the Department field of the users AD accounts to populate them. All the data I’m using to populate the dynamic list is coming from an HR system. Since we have our users all over the place I have setup the “recipient Container” at the domain.org level. The problem that I’m having is that several departments use the same administrative assistance and they want to include them in their dynamic lists. The administrative assistance already below to their own Department, but they need to be included on others as well. This is what I have done and I don’t know why is not working.

  1. Added “Administrative Assistance” to extensionAttribute11 on the administrative assistance AD accounts.
  2. Added another condition and pasted “Administrative Assistance” to one of the dynamic distribution list I want to include them, but as soon as I do that and run the cmdlet to view members to see if they are included nothing comes out.
  3. I created a test dynamic list to include only condition extentionAttribute11 and it works just fine, but when I include condition “Department” it won’t work.

I have included an attachment of how I have it setup. I’m not sure how make this work. I really thought that what I did would work. Can someone please assist me? I will really appreciate it.

Is it possible to create a second website on Exchange 2013 CAS server for Activesync?

$

I have seen the steps to configure multiple OWA/ECP virtual directories on Exchange CAS on technet in order to eliminate internet access to Exchange EAC - http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2015/02/11/configuring-multiple-owa-ecp-virtual-directories-on-the-exchange-2013-client-access-server-role.aspx. Our org really doesn't need to have OWA, ECP, EWS, OA, or PS exposed to the outside world at all - we ONLY need to have internet access to AS.  What I would like to do is set up a secondary website for ActiveSync (similar to the method described in the link) and then port forward 443 from the firewall to the secondary website IP (which would be on the one and only CAS server) and effectively remove all these other services from being exposed to the internet.  Does anybody have any ideas or experience with this type of change that can offer some help?  We are a very small company and cannot purchase extra hardware to make entirely different CAS server for this.  Thanks in advance for thoughts/comments.
