Exchange 2013 - Mailbox Auditing

$

Hi all,

Like to check what is the event id that will appear on Windows Event Viewer when a mailbox is access by someone else?

For exchange 2007, the event id is 10100. I cannot seems to find the id for 2013 on the net.

Also, if I wish to monitor exchange administrator if they are accessing any other person's mailbox,

Would this power shell command be enough to turn on what I wish to monitor?

Set-Mailbox -AuditEnabled:$true

Thanks!

Zack

Exchange 2013 mailbox name resolving vs. exchange server name (mailbox rule)

Hello guys,

I am running exchange 2007 and exchange 2013 CU7 in hybrid mode, while internal autodiscover a record is pointing to exchange 2007 client rule server.

When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2007- I can use autodiscover using mail address ore resolve mailbox name vs. exchange server name.

When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2013- I can configure it only using autodiscover mechanism ( email address - next- next etc.).

We are using EMC backup software which works with MAPI. Since I wasn't able to restore granular mailboxes, I contacted EMC and they claimed that it's very important to configure mailboxes resolving.

What should I check and configure to make it work?

PowerShell Modify Dynamic Groups created using the GUI

I’m using Exchange 2013 and our environment has several dynamic distribution lists. All dynamic lists have been created using the EAC GUI. I’m using the Department field and custom attributes of the users AD accounts to populate them. All the data I’m using to populate the dynamic list is coming from an HR system. The problem that I’m having is that several departments use the same administrative assistance and they want to include them in their dynamic lists. The administrative assistance already below to their own Department, but they need to be included on others as well.  How can I make sure that the same dynamic list HR includes members with Department "Human Resources" and Admin Assistance with CustomAttribute11 "Administrative Assistance"

    Hi,

One of my user was unable to receive email from her desktop outlook, browser and her phone. On her outlook, the status of her exchange is disconnected. Then when she tried to access her OWA, this error prompted below "

"Something went wrong. We're having trouble getting to your mailbox right now. Please refresh the page or try again later. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk."

Her emails started coming in again after about 45minutes later. It happened twice today.

Anyone have the same symptoms as mind?

    CU8 Install fails.

I just spent the morning trying to get our Exchange server back to a working state.

I attempted to do a CU8 install (I'm currently on CU3).  I followed the instructions by prepping the Schema and the AD.  Both completed successfully.  No replication issues.

I ran setup.exe as an Administrator on our Exchange server.  It stopped at 90% of checking prerequisites.  It then threw up the error (please see attached screenshots), and died.

It's now working again, but I need to get this CU installed.  ANyone have any insights at to what caused this?

    Exchange 2013 CU2 ASP.NET event ID 1309 : MapiExceptionMailboxInTransit and MapiExceptionIllegalCrossServerConnection

In an Exchange2013 CU2 environment with 4 mailbox servers (2 each in a different site) and separate front end servers (also 2 each in a different site) I find the application evenlogs on mailbox servers littered (500 events per 24 hours) with Event ID: 1309, Event Source: ASP.NET. With common underlying exeptions "MapiExceptionMailboxInTransit" and "MapiExceptionIllegalCrossServerConnection"
The errors seem to be caused by attempts to login to https://localhost:444/owa/proxylogon.owa using the userID of a Health monitoring mailbox that is actively mounted on a different mailboxserver.

I theorize that this to be a bug in the Exchange Health manager (not keeping track of where mailboxes are actively mounted) but can't say that for sure.

Any suggestion on how to "turn off" this check in the health manager configuration so I don't get all these false positive messages ?

    Uninstalling Exchange 2010

    Hi all,

We're moving away from Exchange and I had two quick questions about uninstalling Exchange 2010.

    1.  Each Active Directory user has an Email attribute (which shows what the users' email address is).  That attribute won't go away when we uninstall Exchange will it?

    2.  Exchange was used to create a lot of distribution lists, which are universal distribution groups in our domain.  Those won't get deleted when we uninstall will they?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

cannot connect to port 25 externally and owa is not working

    Hi all,

just finished installing exchange 2013 and all went well.   Internally, everything works perfectly.   However, I then moved my testing externally.   Browsing to https://mydomain/owa times out - as does https://mydomain/ecp    Also, I cannot telnet to my mail server either:  telnet mydomain 25 times out.  I can though telnet mydomain 143 and telnet mydomain 110 no problem.

I have setup the receive connector as per the instructions (in fact, it was already setup) the frontend default allows anonymous access (as it should).  Windows firewall is off.  Router forwarding ports fine.

I can telnet 25 locally and as I said, everything works internally.    Clearly, there is another step that has to be taken to allow external access to the port 25 and also for owa and ecp.  I have double checked the SERVERS - VIRTUAL DIRECTORIES area and all the external url are correct.  Can someone help please?

    Exchange Throttling Policy

    Hi all,

I've just created a custom Throttle Policy in Exchange(2013) and applied it to only 1 user account/mailbox. The policy allows maximum simultaneous, maximum, etc. connections to the mailbox with the following values, -RCAMaxConcurrency Unlimited -EWSMaxConcurrency Unlimited -EWSMaxSubscriptions Unlimited -CPAMaxConcurrency Unlimited -EwsCutoffBalance Unlimited -EwsMaxBurst Unlimited -EwsRechargeRate Unlimited

Im running a script that polls this particular mailbox via POP3 and even after making this change it still appears to drop out after the organisational limit of (16) simultaneous connections.

My question is, do I have to restart the POP service for this to then work or should it be instant? If I don't have to restart the service, why might this not be working for me?

    Hello all

Running Exchange 2013 sp1 RU8 and Exchange 2010 SP3. I know that Exchange 2013 does not client access array or the RpcClientAccessServer attribute.  However when i start introducing Exchange 2013 CAS\MBX servers do i need to change or modify  the 2010 client access array ? right now the client access array FQDN for the 2010 side points to "Outlook.mydomain.com" On the 2013 side the value for outlookanywhere is "mail.mydomain.com", and on the 2010 side the value for outlookanywhere is "mail.mydomain.com" Mail.mydomain.com" points to the 2013 CAS servers.  When a client connects I'm assuming its autodiscover that hands off to the client the FQDN name for the client access array?

Also it appears the admin before me created a value for RpcClientAccessServer attribute on the 2013 databases, because when i run the command "get-mailboxdatabase |select name,RpcClientAccessServer" I see "outlook.mydomain.com" stamped on all the 2013 databases. Can i remove this value from all the 2013 databases? if so how?

    Hello,

I'm hardening  our Exchange servers and one of IS requirement is description of all port where applications are listening.

I did found that  Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.TopologyService listening on port 890. Does it really necessary? How i can disable this? Or at least is there are someone who knows why it's needed?

    Regards,

Exchange 2010 Dynamic Distribution Group - RecipientContainer ignored

Maybe someone will be able to help me with this...  I am trying to create DDGs for my organization but it seems the "RecipientContainer" is being ignored.  I have reorganized AD to include a top level OU called "Active Employees" and within that are sub-OUs for each department.  I also have a top level OU for "Disabled Accounts" and users in those OUs are ending up on my DDG.  Is this a known issue with Exchange 2010?

First I had created the DDG in EMC and everything looked good.  I set the Recipient Container on the Filter tab by using the browse button and selecting mydomain.local\Active Employees, and then selected "Users with Exchange Mailboxes".  On the Conditions tab I left everything blank and when I clicked on Preview it returned the list of users I expected to see.  After sending a test email and receiving an NDR from an email contact (not on the preview list) I realized something was wrong.

At this point I found out how to query the group members using the shell and saw that all users in the entire domain were being put into the group.  To resolve this I added a Condition for Company name and then tediously updated the field for each user in AD.  After querying the group from the shell again the results looked a little better - it was actually only pulling users with the correct "Company" in AD.  The problem is it still seems to be ignoring the RecipientContainer parameter and querying the entire domain instead of my Active Employees OU.

I have reproduced the same results whether creating the DDG from EMC or from the Shell.  When I try to use the Set-DynamicDistributionGroup cmdlet to update the recipient container it warns me that the commad was successful but nothing has been modified.  This was supposed to be a simple solution for keeping our distribution groups up to date - maybe I should've known better...

    Exchange 2013 ECP 503 error

I have a problem with my two Exchange 2013 servers. There are no mailboxes on the servers, because we are just beginning our migration from Exchange 2007. We are running Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012R2

When I try to access ecp/owa on ex01 (https://localhost or https://ex01.domain.local), I am presented with a login page, but after entering my credentials, I get a 503 error:

Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable

On ex02, I can RDP to the server and log into ecp/owa just fine. However, if I log in (https://ex02.domain.local) from another computer (like my PC), I get the same credential page and 503 error.

    I verified the following:

    • All of the application pools and Exchange services are started
    • I do not have any instances of event 2280 in the Application log
    • I have also restarted the server
    • Local security policy shows that Administrators and Backup Operators have "Allow log on locally" permission

This feels like a permissions issue in IIS, but I'm not sure.

My ECP virtual directory settings (both servers) look like this:

    • InternalAuthenticationMethods : {Basic, Fba}
    • BasicAuthentication : True
    • WindowsAuthentication : False
    • DigestAuthentication : False
    • FormsAuthentication : True
    • LiveIdAuthentication : False
    • AdfsAuthentication : False
    • OAuthAuthentication : False
    • ExternalAuthenticationMethods : {Fba}

Why won't ex01 let me log in and why would the login on ex02 work from the server, but 503 from my machine? Thanks.

    Hi Guys,

For 1 year after migration from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013, there is no problem with it.

In past few days, suddenly our outlook client disconnect from server.

I just restart the exchange server but it took a long time(1 hour) for connecting in client outlook.

same with the day, we have a problem with paging file error message in exchange server.

    is it related ?

    Thanks,

    Hilda
