Cannot make autodiscovery work internally - "401 The target principal name is incorrect"

$

Hi all

Im in process of migrating Exchange 2010 to 2013. I've alreay installed a two node multirole cluster of Exchange 2013. using the same cert i'm already using on the Exchange 2010.

My internal windows domain "internaldomain.lan" is different from the public domain "publicdomain.com".

In my exchange2010 environment the autodiscovery is working fine, and when i try to browse https://webmail.internaldomain.lan/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml, it works correctly (returns 600)

But when trying to browse Exchange 2013 autodiscovery through the same url (forcing dns resolution through hosts file), IIS returns 401 error. It never accepts the login credentials.

The Test-OutlookProviders command shows 401

ScenarioDescription : Autodiscover: Outlook Provider
Result              : Failure
Latency             : 61
Error               : System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The target principal name is incorrect

"The target principal name is incorrect" seems to indicate there is a problem with the certificate.

My certificate has a "webmail.publicdomain.com" principal name, and lots of SAN: "autodiscover.<smtpdomains>" and one "webmail.internaldomain.lan"

Forcing hosts to resolve those names to CAS 2013 works for them except for the "webmail.internaldomain.lan"

Tried to force Outlook providers to "msstd:webmail.publicdomain.com" but with no result.

Any idea about what can be the problem or how can i solve this situation?

Thanks!

about transport rules

Hi ,

We are using exchange server 2013 and hosted 2 email domains.

1. xyz.com

2. pqr.com

We have created a signature , which attach automatically , when we are sending emails from any of our domain user account , from xyz.com or from pqr.com

Now , I have one more account , which is configured in my microsoft outlook ( which is not hosted with my exchange server ) ,and I want to create a custom rule ,such as if i am sending email from that account ( john@hello.com ) , it should attach a custom signature everytime , and do not attach the default signature ( which is designed for xyz.com )..

I search and found its not possible to create a custom signature rule , for a domain which is not hosted under the exchange server , so i want to know , is it possible to create such type of signature or transport rule inside the outlook..

thank you..

Possible to restrict delivery to Distribution List that needs to accept e-mails from external senders?

$

We have about 20k distribution lists and many of them are setup to allow senders that are unauthorized so that they can accept e-mails from external senders. Recently we have had a few of them be attacked from external senders either by spoofing our address to millions of recipients and then the distribution list users get any of the responses or simply by sending undetected SPAM/malware directly to our distribution lists.

Is there a way to use "Accept Messages From" at the domain level?   I would like to say something like all e-mails from @cisco.com but do not want to create a contact for everyone that needs to send us e-mails from cisco.com.

Appreciate the feedback.

Exchange 2007 Free Busy working in Outlook but not displaying in OWA

On my desktop outlook 2013 client, free and busy works fine. When I logon to OWA, add a user, free/busy is showing blank when I highlight the individual and go to properties, I see their free busy schedule. When I try OWA from different desktops, free busy showing blank when I add a user. When I logon to OWA on the exchange server, free busy works. I verified DNS is resolving correctly, no issues with EWS, verified internal/external URLs, and verified exchange web services. I am thinking of rebooting the server but have to wait until a maintenance window.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kenny

Exchange 2013 minimum requirements for Office 365

I am going to build an Exchange 2013 server strictly for the purpose of managing exchange objects in Office 365.  The server will not host any mailboxes.  I will be installing on a VM, what would be the minimum recommended cpu and memory requirements?

How does it work?

Hi,

I have a customer who has a Microsoft Exchange Server Account for their email, they are paying a substantial amount each month to have this and they really do not need to be paying so much.

They want to move their hosting away and just have a straight forward IMAP account, if they change Name Servers will they lose all of their emails, or are their emails actually stored on their PC?

Thanks in advance

Exchange 2010 trust relationship;after rejoining mail missing for users

Today morning we are not able to login to exchange server 2010.

it shows the following message :

"The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed"

exchange server is running in vmware VM. Its single server with CAS, Hub and mailbox roles.

There were some snapshot remaining that took before upgrading to SP3. vmware was showing it required consolidation message.

So I removed snapshot and did consolidation.

After that I did Reset account from active directory for exchange server and then restart server and login to server with  local administrative account.

I then removed exchange server from domain , restarted the exchange VM and then join to our domain back and restarted again. In this step I didnt stop any of the exchange server  services. i didnt notice that step.

Also  it showed some network card issue while joining domain. and But it joined.

Every thing was ok. There was no issues for server. But users started complaining that their mails are missing for last one month(april 8 to may 12 2015). Only mails missed during these period for the users. I dont know why it happened. How can i recover all these missing emails.

We have veeam backup for exchange server. but to recover only a portion of emails  for these users one by one is really a tedious tasks.

one of the user completely lost his mailbox.

I dont know whether i need to restore the whole VM or some other steps to get the mail back.

Please help me the reason for the cause and how to recover mails for users

Hello I have a question. I am trying to get Free / Busy to work on Exchange 2013. There are currently no other Exchange servers in my environment. The clients are using Outlook 2007.

Does anyone know how to get the Free / Busy working with Exchange 2013 and Outlook 2007?

my senior exchange dude configured 2007 and 2013, but I noticed that my 2007 users are unable to see 2013 users free busy.

the ews setting right now are:

EWS (Default Web Site)  200701   https://sillywebmail.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
EWS (Default Web Site)  200702   https://b-webmail.mydomain.com/ews/exchange....
EWS (Exchange Back End) 2013EXCH01
EWS (Default Web Site)  2013EXCH01 https://b-site1.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
EWS (Exchange Back End) 2013EXCH02
EWS (Exchange Back End) 2013EXCH03
EWS (Exchange Back End) 2013EXCH04
EWS (Default Web Site)  2013EXCH02 https://b-site1.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
EWS (Default Web Site)  2013EXCH03 https://b-site1.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
EWS (Default Web Site)  2013EXCH04 https://b-site1.mydomain.com/ews/exchange.asmx

if I put the url in my browser and the login my free/busy then works. I was thinking the authentication is set incorrectly?

also should the backend entries be populated?

and is there a good blog or something I can find to help me understand the virtual directories and authentication?

Updated information.

I can succussfully connect to the exchange powershell from a remote computer, using this method.

$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://<FQDN of Exchange 2013 Client Access server>/PowerShell/ -Authentication Kerberos

Import-PSSession $Session

So the problem is localised on the server.

Hello, I've looked at several discussions on this topic however can't seem to find a solution.  Exchange 2013 appears to have installed properly, all prerequisites have been met, mail store created, services start....however when into the admin screen it's blank.  Does this with IE, Chrome and Firefox.  Another associated problem, the Exchange PS cmds don't seem to be present, some are others are not.

Any thoughts, suggestions, pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks
