Applying Folder Retention Policies

$
0
0

I have gone ahead and created a RetentionPolicy to remove items older than 60 days from the DeleteItems folder. I have assigned the new Policy to a few users that were migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. When I use the get-mailbox command, I can see the new policy applied. However.... when I perform a get-RetentionPolicyTag -Mailbox "MovedMailbox" nothing returns. What am I missing here?

How can I confirm this policy is applying?

Thanks

POP3 and IMAP failed prompting password frequently

We have exchange 2013 setup with 3 mailbox and 3 CAS servers.

Everything was fine until yesterday and suddenly POP3 and IMAP users login failed and  they are no able to login using outlook.

Exchange MAPI configuration and accessing email over WEB is fine. Those who are using POP and IMAP failed.

We tried to create new profile for the POP and that also failed with message

"Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings.  The server responded: -ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."

If anybody have similar experience or any solution kindly help please

Exchange 2010 SAN disks offline

$

Hi All,

I have encountered an issue with some of our Exchange servers. Without warning and without anything occurring that I am aware of, the logs and database drives go offline. There are no events in the event logs that refer to a volume going offline, only Exchange complaining that the DB and logs are unavailable.

They are drives going offline are Raw Device Mappings to Windows 2008R2 virtual machines running on ESXi 5.5 update 1.

I have looked this up and many articles relate to the Diskpart SAN profile. This is all well and good however, the disks are not offline when the server reboots, they just go offline at random times. You can right click on them and bring them online and all is well and even then reboot and they stay online. And then unexpectedly users will complain that they cannot access their emails and then we notice that the drives have gone offline. Its baffling us!

We have many VMs with Windows 2008R2 and with RDMs and we have never seen this activity before.

Could this be the DAG cluster?? Could it be Exchange??

Any help or advice would be most welcome.

Many Thanks

David

Certificate Based Authentication Exchange Server 2013?

I can't find setup information specific to Exchange Server 2013.  I only see information for 2010.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/28/configure-certificate-based-authentication-for-exchange-activesync.aspx

Has Microsoft or anyone else posted step by step instructions for setting up certificate based authentication for Exchange Server 2013 or have any Exchange Server 2013 books been released or updated in the last few months that include the steps needed to set up Activesync CBA from scratch in an Exchange Server 2013 environment?

Public folders in deleted objects after CU8

Hi all

Since upgrading to CU8 last night from (I think) CU6 Exchange seems to believe that the public folders are pointing to deleted objects for each mailbox and database.

I've checked and the public folders database still exists under CN=Databases,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=ORGNAME,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services

However, if I run get-publicfolderdatabase it returns nothing!

Public folders are still all accessible, but I'm starting to worry a bit.

Our public folders were originally migrated from Exchange 2007

Can anyone shed any light or give advice?

Thanks

Andy

Hi all,

I'm kinda pulling my hair out here. I had a power outage which looks to have corrupted the mailstore. Running eseutil /r and eseutil /d have completed successfully but the database still isn't mounting.

I end up with this message:

eDiscovery

2012R2

I just created an in place discovery based on a keyword, I then exported it to a .pst.

I noticed today that some of the emails cannot be opened, "This item cannot be displayed in the reading Pane, Open item to read its content"

So I ran the same query but got the same results so I thought maybe those emails were encrypted so I delegated myself rights to the mailbox and now I can open those emails just fine, no encryption.

Any idea why the .pst file has random emails that will not open yet can be opened directly from the mailbox?

I can preview the email just fine using the eDiscovery tool but once it gets to the .pst and can't view everything.

Mailmove error - have no clue what the error means

$

On a piece meal basis we are moving users from exchange 2010 to 2013 (cloud).
So far so good. Except for two users so far...the move stalls with a error : Transient Error MapiExceptionJetErrorDiskIO.

So I thought maybe the servers were too busy or network was busy. That's not the case, because I can start a new move request during this and that new request completes just fine. I've run this move request multiple times and it always stalls at a certain point.

Running a  Get-MoveRequestStatistics -Identity SomeUser@domain.com -IncludeReport | FL reports what is happening.
For one of the two people, the move get only up to 42 percent (copy status 20760/52768 and 33/58 folders).. then the error happens, it resets at 20148/52768 and goes up until the break point of 20760. It repeats for hours.

I've set the -baditem limit to 10  and -AllowLargeItems

New-MoveRequest -Identity someuser@domain.com - TargetDatabase "destination" -BadItemLimit 10 -AllowLargeItems.
(I've tried this with and with out the options...)

Can anyone tell me what is going on and what I can do about this?

Configure legacy public folders where user mailboxes are on Exchange 2013 servers

$

Hello all,

I have mailboxes on an exchange 2013 server than need access to public folders on a 2010 server before I migrate them over.  I followed the commands in the TechNet article with the subject "Configure legacy public folders where user mailboxes are on Exchange 2013 servers" (sorry, I wasn't allowed to insert a link because I wasn't verified?).  The problem is when I run the last command of "Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes ProxyMailbox1,ProxyMailbox2,ProxyMailbox3" on the 2013 server, using the mailbox name I had created, it says it cannot be found.  Of course I checked and the mailbox exists, is configured properly, and so is the new database.  The 2013 EAC also sees the mailbox with no issues.  Can someone tell me why I am getting this error?

Thanks,

Shaibal

Cross-Forest Move-Request Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

$

Hi people!!

We have two Exchange environments in different forest. We want to do a crossforest migration from Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2013 (Exchange Resource Forest with Linked Mailboxes). These are the configurations:

Domain: SourceDomain.local

ActiveDirectory: 2012 R2 Domain Controllers. Domain functional level 2008

Exchange: Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 RU15

  • 2 Mailboxes Servers à Cluster Continuous Replication
  • 2 ClientAccess & HubTransport Servers with NLB by Microsoft
  • 2 Edge Servers
  • ISA 2006 to publish OWA, EAS, EWS…

Domain: TargetDomain.local

ActiveDirectory: 2012 R2 Domain Controllers. Domain functional level 2012 R2

Exchange: Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 7 (CU7) (Exchange Resource Forest)

  • 2 Mailboxes Servers à 1 DAG
  • 2 ClientAccess Servers
  • 2 Edge Servers

Both Exchange works fine. Exchange Server 2007 (SourceDomain.local) is currently in production and Exchange Server 2013 in Resource Forest (TargetDomain.local) is for migrating mailboxes in Linked Mailbox from Exchange 2007. We´ve configured a Linked Mailbox and it works.

We´ve configured a trust between the forests:

  • Conditional Forwarders in both domains
  • Forest trust, One-way outgoing, Forest-wide authentication: TargetDomain.local, Domains trusted by this domain (outgoing trusts)à SourceDomain.local – Forest- Transitive SourceDomain.local, Domains that trust this domain (incoming trusts) à TargetDomain.local – Forest – Transitive

We´ve configured following prerequisites for migrating:

  • Accepted Domains à Both Exchanges have an accepted domain:Company.com as Internal Relay Domain
  • Send Connectors à Both Exchange have a send connector (CrossForest) with Address Space:*.company.com and Smart Hosts
  • Test Mailflow. (Currently, MXs for company.com are in Exchange 2007)
    • Mail from external source to mailbox in Exchange 2007 à OK
    • Mail from external source to mailbox in Exchange 2013 à OK
    • Mail from external source to Linked Mailbox in Exchange 2013 an account in DomainSourceDomain.localà OK
    • Internal Mail from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 à OK
    • Internal Mail from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2007 à OK
  • MRSPROXY. We´ve activated MRSProxy in both Client Access Servers in Exchange 2013

For Migrating Mailboxes, from Client Access Server in Exchange 2013 in PowerShell, We’ve done these steps:

  • Preparation Mailboxes. Previously We´ve stored credentials with Get-Credential. $SourceCredentials à SourceDomain.local and &TargetCredentialsà TargetDomain.local We´ve run this command: Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 –identity “Testuser”–RemoteForestDomainController DC1.SourceDomain.local –RemoteForestCredential $SourceCredentials –LocalForestDomainController DC1.TargetDomain.local –LocalForestCredential $TargetCredentials –LinkedMailUser –TargetMailUserOU “OU=Mailboxes,DC=TargetDomain,DC=local” –Verbose It finished fine and 1 mailbox ready to move. We´ve checked It´s created a Disable User in TargetDomain.Local.
  • New-MoveRequest. Previously We´ve stored credentials with Get-Credential. $SourceCredentials à SourceDomain.local We´ve run this command: New-MoveRequest –identity “Testuser” –RemoteLegacy –TargetDatabase “DB1” –RemoteGlobalCatalog “DC1.SourceDomain.local” –RemoteCredential $SourceCredentials –TargetDeliveryDomain “company.com” It finished with this error: MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make connection to the server. (hr=0x80004005, ec=2423)

After this error, We´ve done following changes and tests:

  • To check network permission between both Exchanges and Active Directory. Currently we have any/any permissions.
  • To resolve NETBIOS name and FQDN names beween both Exchange. In TargetDomain.local We added in host file NETBIOS name and FQDN name of all Exchange Servers 2007. In SourceDomain.local we can do ping to NETBIOS and FQDN without to edit host file.
  • Import Root CA Between both Exchange Organizations. In each Exchange server in SourceDomain.local import Root CA we use in Exchange 2013 and in each Exchange server in TargetDomain.local import Root CA we use in Exchange 2007. After this, We´ve checked to access OWA without warning certificate (Internal Access OWA).
