Responder ServiceHealthMSExchangeReplForceReboot causes Exchange Server 2013 or Exchange Server 2016 to restart with Stop Error

$

Is there a tech note or kb article showing that the reboot was by design of Microsoft on the Exchange Active Managerto initiate a restart in an attempt to correct the problem exactly as per the root cause below? Thank you.

Root Cause: DAG nodes inability to register reverse DNS records lead to issues with Exchange Active Manager unable to remain stable. Recreating reverse DNS zones allowed required DNS records to be registered.

HandleError has encountered a suspicious connection reset from a remote, non-mailbox transport server

Having some intermittent sending of emails from Exchange to Domino.

In the Send Connector logs of Exchange, it shows:

"HandleError has encountered a suspicious connection reset from a remote, non-mailbox transport server (will retry in 00:10:00)"

Any idea what it means? Any idea how to resolve this?

A snipet of the logs:

Unknown app pool name error when ran: Invoke-MonitoringProbe -Identity Outlook.Proxy\OutlookProxyTestProbe

Got this error for one of  our supported Exchange 2013 environments, outlook.proxy healthset showed alert state; got the same error when I ran the probe on another box whose healthset showed as healthy.

Questions:

What does unknown app pool mean? how to fix it?

Why the other server is not affected by this probe and its state is still healthy? I checked there was no monitor override for this healthset. This healthset has only 1 probe.

Exchange migration to HA

Hi,

I have 1 Exch2013 server that chugs away okay and have created 2 new Exch2013 servers.

Both new servers have CAS and MB roles for which I will DAG. To get full HA, I'm stumped on how to get users to connect as I would like to point to 1 NLB and that decides EXCH01 or EXCH02 although I can't use Windows NLB because I'm gong to DAG the mailboxes.

Is there any other workarounds someone could suggest without a hardware appliance NLB as I'd like to present 1 name to connect internally as well as externally across the organisation?

Exchange Hybrid environment and free/busy issue

$

Greetings

I have just set up an Exchange hybrid environment running Exchange Server 2013 CU11 and Office 365.

I'm running into a problem where mailboxes in the cloud cannot see free/busy information for user mailboxes on the on prem Exchange server.

Testing shows that:

Bi-directional mailflow works.

Users on prem can see free/busy for on prem and cloud mailboxes

Cloud mailboxes can see free/busy for cloud mailboxes but not on prem mailboxes

The free busy test at https://www.testconnectivity.microsoft.com is successful for a prem mailbox user.

Running that test as a cloud user fails at this step

Attempting to send an Autodiscover POST request to potential Autodiscover URLs. - error code 500, the e-mail address can't be found

Autodiscover is pointed at the on prem exchange server.

Any assistance for how to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

Exchange 2013 Mailbox Migrations

Hi all,

Migration to me is moving an object although when I look at mailbox sizes in on my Exchange MB servers I can see the mailbox of the old server and the new...is this right? I presume it's a copy but points to the new server or am I missing a step?

How to identify an out-of-office email generated by Exchange?

$

Is there a 'correct' way to identify if an email is an out-of-office? In both these cases:

  1. If I'm connecting to the same exchange environment where the email was sent. This answer says to check ItemType.ItemClass and it should have a defined value ... although perhaps these values differ across Outlook/Exchange versions since the provided answer in 2009 differs fromthis list which doesn't differentiate between internal & external.
  2. If the email is received from an external domain so I can only check message headers. In this case it's hard to differentiate between Out of Office and other auto-generated emails (e.g. those forwarded by a rule): they both have "auto-submitted: auto-generated" on them. The subject prefix will be localized so hard to get right. This blog warns me off using "X-Auto-Response-Suppress", saying it indicates the sender doesn't want auto-replies, not that the email IS an auto-reply, and therefore would generate false positives. Questions of this nature abound but there seems no right answer to be easily found. The best answer I've found so far isthis, although I don't know how well that fits with what is sent by various versions of outlook/exchange.

thanks,

Rory

Error 400 with Autodiscover for certain users

$

Greetings!  I am in the process of standing up some Exchange 2013 hybrid servers in our Exchange 2010 environment.  Both of these servers host both CAS and MBX roles.  They are hybrid licensed which as I came to find out means they cannot host any mailboxes with this license mode; not an issue as we currently do not plan on migrating any users to Exchange 2013 on premise, just to O365.

Here is my issue.  With my account only (so far), when I browse to mail.domain.com\autodiscover\autodiscover.xml I receive an error 400 - BAD REQUEST.  This happens for both the internal and external URL.  OWA and ECP both work fine.  I tested with some other accounts and they get the expected 600 response.  I have noticed that with my account, when using Outlook Anywhere off the network, this autodiscover issue results in free/busy not functioning.

When I browse to the autodiscover.xml on our current Exchange 2010 CAS server, I do not get this error 400 so it seems to be just with the new Exchange 2013 servers.  I did research into this error and came across some suggestions to increase the MaxTokenSize in case it is an issue with large kerberos tickets for my account but this did not alleviate the issue.

Looking for some suggestions on where to look next.  Thank you in advance!

Configuring Windows Search for Exchange Online in Outlook 2010 on RDS Server 2008

$

We have recently migrated from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Online. Users log into a single RDS Server and use Outlook 2010 in cached mode to access email.

We noticed that their email was not searchable from within Outlook, so added the Role on the Server and now we find the Indexing is taking a long time - Users report that within Outlook they receive "Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed".

From what I can see the index is indexing but taking a long time? Is the index the one file for All Users or does each User have their own index? It looks as though the index edb file is in the default location C:\ProgramData\Microsoft.

Any help would be appreciated.

Migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013 Finalizing steps.

Good day everybody!

After several months of tough migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013 we аre finally at 95% stage of Public Folder Migration.

There are huge numbers of articles describing step-by-step migration process, but at the point of Public Folder Delete process it sends me to official Microsoft article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(EXCHG.140).aspx.

We have one Public Folder Database that has replication to two another MB Servers.

My big confusion is what kind of Delete Process needs to be selected in a case I need to remove Public Folder completely from Exchange 2010, either "Remove a public folder database from a Mailbox server" or "Remove the last public folder database from an organization"?

BR,

Good man

Accepted Outlook Meeting 'Microsoft Outlook on behalf of User' going into deleted items folder

Hello,

We recently migrated from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013. We are currently experiencing some issues with calendar meetings.

Some users report that when they send a meeting and the recipients accepts the meeting, the sender receives a meeting 'Microsoft Outlook on behalf of User' in there 'Deleted items'.

Is there an explanation for this behaver?

Dynamic Distribution groups via powershell

$

hi

i have created a DDG through powershell which checks against the Users AD attributes - Office and Mobile Phone.

Set-DynamicDistributionGroup "hasmobile" -RecipientFilter {(RecipientType -eq "UserMailBox") -and (MobilePhone -ne $Null) -and (Office -eq "ABC")}
$tmp = Get-DynamicDistributionGroup "hasmobile"
get-recipient -RecipientPreviewFilter $tmp.RecipientFilter

This works as expected in Powershell and changes to the AD object  stop it being returned . e.g. removing/adding a mobile number

I have then created a mail flow rule to apply when "if the sender is a member of this group" = "hasmobile"

However, when i run this it always applies this rule regardless of whether the rule is matched or not.

I have also tried appending a

"-RecipientContainer 'DC=ABC,DC=local'"

to the filter via powershell but this still does not work.

Can anyone elaborate on why this is getting applied when the criteria does not match please ?

any help greatly appreciated.

cannot uninstall exchange 2013

Hello all,

I had installed an exchange server 2013 (let's call it ServerC) on the side of my existing exchange servers (2 CAS, Mailbox in a DAG, serverA and serverB).

I had deleted the default mailbox database that came with the installation. There is no user nor database on this exchange serverC.

This said, when trying to uninstall, I get:

Error:
This computer is a member of a database availability group (DAG). It must be removed from the DAG before you can uninstall Exchange.

>Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup

Name             Member Servers                                      Operational Servers
----             --------------                                      -------------------
MY-DAG1         {ServerB, ServerA}

Also Cluster Failover feature is installed but nothing had been configured. cluster service is not running and still is disable from the initial configuration.

>Cluster Node returns an error, well it is not even running and the my cluster with serverA and B accordingly show the 2 servers and nothing else.

So Exchange uninstall thinks it is a DAG or Cluster but clearly it is not, where/waht can I look for and clear any settings to allow me to uninstall it properly?
