DumpsterAlwaysOn Question

$

Hello! I have successfully migrated SBS Exchange 2007 over to a Server 2012 based Exchange 2013 environment. All is well. I have question re: Group policy and Exchange and Outlook: an SBS Client Policy GPO setting is still in place. It pertains to Outlook 'dumpster': under Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Extra Registry Settings

SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options\DumpsterAlwaysOn

Does Exchange 2013 require this GPO setting? It seems like this is handled entirely by Exchange 2013, without the need for a PC reg. key edit.

Thanks,

David

Hi,
We're installing an Exchange 2013 server on a Dell R730xd server.
We've provisioned RAID 1 for the OS, and RAID 5 for the DB/log drives.

Can anyone let me know what the recommended settings would be for the RAID config?

I would expect the following :
- Read Policy : Read Ahead
- Write Policy : Write Back
- Disk Cache policy : disabled
- strip size : ? (defaults to 64KB)

Exchange 2010 2013, wrong ServiceEndpoint

Hi

I have a coexistence between Exchange 2010 and 2013.

If I do a Test-OutlookWebservices I get the ServiceEndpoint for Exchange 2010 CAS Array for users in Exchange 2013.

Where does Exchange get this EndPoint from? And why does it use it for 2013 users? The test fails for 2013 users.

If I do a autodiscover test from Outlook, everything is fine, for users in both environments.

Office 2013, Exchange 2013

i think this question of mine can be approached in two ways and i'm looking at what's possible and what's practical.

how do you prevent or control users from misusing the "Reply All" button in Outlook?

i am already restricting access or usage of DL.

Public Folders, Public Folder Instances, OAB default location,

I know this is the 2013 forms but I have to get this resolved on 2010 before going to 2013..I didn't see a 2010 section.

I came upon a network where exchange was migrated from 2003 to 2010. I discovered there is one public folder called childsupport still left on 2003 due to troubles moving it (not sure what troubles arose) and there are several public folderinstances located on 2003 (yet they seem to point to the 2010 server when I go the properties of them and click the replication Tab. In addition, several users appear in the "logons" under the Public Folder store under the First Admin Group. The items under the public folder instances also appear under the replication Status folder. There is only one childsupport public folder that I can see which has not moved.

Should I right click the public folder store on the 2003 server and choose to move all replicas? Does this move the data? I do see the childsupport folder from the 2010 server, but it reports that its database is still on 2003 server.

Beside this issue, There are 2 offline address books. One is the default, and it is public folder based for distribution, and exists on the 2003 server. The other is not the default, but is web based for our OWA and also public folder based. Can I just make that one the default and remove the other one that is coming from 2003?

There are a few other mail routing steps I need to take, but I believe I have those down.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 Distribution list "Send As" and "Send on Behalf" settings

On the ECP view of distribution list, there is the group delegation for "Send As" and "Send on Behalf" and was wondering if this could be used to send an email from the distribution list and have the reply sent to the distribution list and how to send the email. All the information shows it should but not sure if there is more that needs to be setup.

When I try to create a message (with my account in the "Send on Behalf") and put distname@domain.com in the from address, I get a "You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user".

If I create a message (with my account in the "Send As") and put distname@domain.com in the from address, I get the same type of message.

Clutter email not included in journal

I have a journal rule enabled for a user and any email that goes to their clutter folder is not caught by this rule.  Is this by design?  Can I avoid this behavior without disabling clutter?

Database fails during mailbox migration

Hi,

I am trying to migrate one mailbox to another mailbox database ... I am using the following command

New-MoveRequest -Identity 'doesnotmatter@doesnotmatter.com' -TargetDatabase "DB01"

The mailbox "doesnotmatter" is in database called DB00. The problem is, that when the progress of migration reach approximately 92% the database DB00 falls down and the status for content index is Failed andebd status is  failed and suspended ... This happens all the time ... Any ideas what could cause this problem and how to solve this ? Both databases are inDAG.

thank you for your answers.

Remove Send on Behalf to a Active Directory user

Hello,

I am trying to remove the send on behalf permission to a Active Directory user from a mailbox. The command

Set-Mailbox "destinationMailBox" -GrantSendOnBehalfTo @{remove="ADUser"}

doesn't work, because is expecting a mailbox at the remove object. The presented error is:

Couldn't find object "ADUser". Please make sure that it was spelled correctly or specify a different object.

We use Active Directory user (ADUser) that doesnt have a native email address (p.e. aduser@domain.com).

I try to find without answer the solution for this question on the internet. If already exits a thread on this forum for this question, please redirect me for the correct one.

Thank you,

Mark

Erratic RPCping times and random client disconnects

$

Hi,

As per title, we are seeing very random RPCPing times, even from servers in the server VLAN, so not a WAN issue or anything like that.

We have a farm of 7 Exchange 2013 Enterprise servers, All CU12. All running on 2012 R2. They are all in a DAG. There is a NetScaler load balancer in front of these servers which the clients point to. Generally works OK, though we do sometimes get Outlook issues where it drops off and we do not know why.

Testing with the following command:

rpcping -t ncacn_http -o RPCProxy=netscalerVIP.domain.com -P "username,domain,*" -H 1 -F 3 -a connect -u 9 -v 3 -s MailServer1 -I "username,domain,*" -e 6001 -i 20

In the last few minutes alone (while it is working OK) we have seen it as slow as 1293MS for a single RPCping (-i 1) and as fast as 20 RPCpings in 200ms.

Clearly something is not right somewhere for it to be that erratic.

How do I now look at this from the Exchange server side to ensure the issue is not with the Exchange server itself?

Thanks

James

impersonate not working!

Hello,

Need some help trying to diagnose an issue that we are having. We have setup an account that is used for impersonation for our MDM and everything has been working fine until today. I am using EWSEditor to test the impersonation which was working before. Now when running the tool, I get an error that says "The account does not have permission to impersonate the requested user" . I have verified that the account still has ApplicationImpersonation by running the following command Get-ManagementRoleAssignment -RoleAssignee "username"  and the permissions are set correctly. Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem may be?

We are running Exchange 2010 SP3 RU9

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gavin

Exchange 2013 users prompted to login to public folder database

$

I have a multi-tenant 2013 environment, two CAS servers, four mailbox servers (two active, two passive), running through two load balancers.

While I was setting up the environment initially, testing, etc, I had no problems with the public folder database. At some point after putting the environment into production, something happened that caused them to stop working. It's been like this for quite a while now and we just haven't been supporting public folders on the platform, but I would really like to get them working.

Basically, as soon as I create a public folder mailbox on a database, every Outlook connected to the server starts getting a login prompt asking them to login to PublicFolderDatabase@rootdomainontheserver.com. Proper credentials aren't accepted, users just have to click cancel and the login will continue to come up. The only fix is to delete the public folder mailbox, AND completely delete the database it was in (of course I've been using a completely separate database for public folder mailbox).

I have no other login issues anywhere on the platform, everything else works great. I've gone over all the various connectivity tests, etc, and everything has come out fine. I'm not sure what else could be going wrong here.

I'm running CU13 btw (originally setup the environment starting at CU9).

5.7.1 Unable to relay to External Email address when sending email to Windows NLB ?

$

People,

I'm having problem with my server sending email out to external recipient.

Here's my details of Exchange VMs:
smtp.domain.com - 10.1.1.89 [WIndows NLB for load balancing the HT&CAS servers]
PRODMAIL01-VM - 10.1.1.90 [Hub Transport & Client Access Server]
PRODMAIL02-VM - 10.1.1.91  [Hub Transport & Client Access Server]

When I execute the below Powershell code from the server, the results are varying:

  • Send-MailMessage -From "sender@server.domain.com" -To"external-recipient@gmail.com" -Subject "Testing email relay using SMTP FQDN address" -Body "This is the body of email..." -SmtpServer "smtp.domain.com" -DeliveryNotificationOption OnFailure -Verbose

  • Error message: Send-MailMessage : Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay

But when I modify tthe SMTP server to use the HT/CAS server name, all is good:

  • Send-MailMessage -From "sender@server.domain.com" -To "external-recipient@gmail.com" -Subject "Testing email relay using SMTP FQDN address" -Body "This is the body of email..." -SmtpServer "PRODMAIL01-VM.domain.com" -DeliveryNotificationOption OnFailure -Verbose

  • Send-MailMessage -From "sender@server.domain.com" -To "external-recipient@gmail.com" -Subject "Testing email relay using SMTP FQDN address" -Body "This is the body of email..." -SmtpServer "PRODMAIL02-VM.domain.com" -DeliveryNotificationOption OnFailure -Verbose

I can receive the email with no issue in the GMail mailbox. So any help would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Additional details:

I have added the IP address subnet of the server 10.1.1.0/24 in both HT/CAS External Receive Connector.
Cluster Operation is Multicast.

External Relay - Receive Connector settings in both HT/CAS servers:

Thanks,
