I know this is Exchange 2013 forum but I see that Exchange 2010 has been removed so I'm hoping someone can still help me out. We are planning to soon move to Exchange 2013 but in the meantime I've been having some indexing/search issues.
We have a particular mail database for one of our departments and after the database was moved to a new disk, the indexing has never been the same since. To remedy this, I had enabled the Windows search feature on the application server (we have Outlook
2013 hosted as a RemoteApp application with the use of user profile disks) and had them switch to cached mode which seems to be hit or miss. I also have tried following the recommended procedure of stopping the search indexer service on Exchange and then I
deleted the catalog data folder and then restarted the service to have it rebuild the indexes for the particular database. I have also confirmed through the management shell that the index is in a healthy state for the database.
I have now requested for the user that is testing to disabled cached mode to see if the indexes on the Exchange server will be better and I am awaiting feedback but I thought I would be preemptive and see what any suggestions you all may have with dealing with Outlook / search indexing.
Thank you in advance for your time!
Hi!
I’m currently trying to design a 2 DAGs solution for a customer with 4 copies, on 2 datacenters.
I would like to apply best practices here and use 4 databases on each JBOD disks.
However, I’m unable to set the sizer to get a 4 db/volume configuration if I use the Active/Active (Multiple DAG) setting.
Only way to get this result is to increase the number of servers.
However, this is OK if I use the Active/Active (single DAG) option.
Am I wrong somewhere ?
Thanks for your help! Have a great day !
I see a number of my mailbox moves going into a stalled state migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2013. I have paired back the number of simultaneous moves to 7 max. This has helped, but not eliminated the problem. Looking at the MoveRequestStatistics I see that StalledDueToWriteCpu number is high. No other counter is of concern.
I see the status shows as below;
Informational: The request has been temporarily postponed due to unfavorable
server health or budget limitations. MRS will attempt to continue processing
the request again after 4/23/2015 10:39:02 AM.
Does this mean that the CPU is spiking to a high level and causing the mailbox move to stall? I have 8 cores allocated to this server 4 of the cores are averaging around 80% the other 4 about 30-40%.
Thanks

When we delete large number of old emails for users, they receive large number of emails with
Subject: Not read: This is a test email
"Your message

was deleted without being read on Monday,. ......
I want to block all such emails in getting into user's mailbox. So far, I've created only 1 rule that checks Subject for "No read:" from Inside to Outside. This would cause issues if legitimate emails uses the phrase.
Looking at the header, it doesn't contain disposition as mentioned in other articles or any other items that can be filtered with...
Is there another condition I can add in order to prevent someone using these words to not get blocked?
Hello all,
I run exchange 2013 CU3 on Windows 2008 R2 and started running into certificate problems with Google Chrome putting a red slash through https and the lock icon. I checked with VeriSign (Symantec) and they are telling me it is because my cert is running an algorithm ofSHA-1 and needs to beSHA256.
Of course I generated my cert about 2 years ago and Symantec is NO HELP - I looking up on how to generate a new CSR but I don't remember the fine details for all the services or if I need or to generate it through EAC or IIS manager (as Symantec publishes).
I go to EAC and I see 4 entries under certificates
1 - exchangexxxx cert (name of the cert) Issuer: CN-VeriSign Class 3 Secure Server CA VeriSign issued for services (Imap, POP, IIS, SMTP)
2 - Self-signed certificate Issuer: CN-Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate (SMTP)
3 - Microsoft Exchange - Self-signed certificate Issuer=CN=nameofmyserver for services (Imap, POP, IIS, SMTP)
4 - No Name - Self-signed certificate Issuer:WMSvc-myservername
I'm sure I'm probably only dealing with number 1 but the steps to generate another CSR to send of to Symantec is not perfectly clear. I look for a step-by-step procedure and I get wildcards and friendly name enteries and at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998327(v=exchg.150).aspx there are 5 examples.
I can very easily generate a CSR with just the FQDN (myserver.my.domain.whatever) but I'm not sure if it will cover everything from Imap, pop, IIS (which is probably OWA) and SMTP.
Sorry just don't do this every day - if anyone could point me in the right direction or give me some sort of step-by-step it would be appreciated.

Hello,
We have Exchange 2013 and using Outlook 2013. is it possible to make SEND AS option as default sending e-mail option?
Hello guys,
I am running exchange 2007 and exchange 2013 CU7 in hybrid mode, while internal autodiscover a record is pointing to exchange 2007 client rule server.
When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2007- I can use autodiscover using mail address ore resolve mailbox name vs. exchange server name.
When I configure outlook mailbox located on exchange 2013- I can configure it only using autodiscover mechanism ( email address - next- next etc.).
We are using EMC backup software which works with MAPI. Since I wasn't able to restore granular mailboxes, I contacted EMC and they claimed that it's very important to configure mailboxes resolving.
What should I check and configure to make it work?
We are getting the following error after CU6 implementation:
Seems like a latency issue... But, all tests are succesful, we are not experience any harm/issue. So, can we consider it as "by design" or should we take action?
Mailbox Transport Submission - the verification that the probe messages were successfully submitted within 5 minutes to HUB has failed.
This could indicate that the mailbox submissions are taking too long or not progressing at all.

This may indicate a latency from Store to Submission Service. Investigating. Found lower SA latency. Indicates an issue in Submission service.
I am upgrading the last server to SP3 which hosts the mailbox role and is giving the following error
"Couldn't resolve the user or group "Mail.orange.k12.nj.us/Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/Discovery Management." If the user or group is a foreign forest principal,
you must have either a two-way trust or an outgoing trust.".
[04/23/2015 20:35:43.0621] [1] [ERROR] Couldn't resolve the user or group "Mail.orange.k12.nj.us/Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/Discovery Management." If the user or group is a foreign forest principal, you must have either a two-way trust or
an outgoing trust.
[04/23/2015 20:35:43.0621] [1] [ERROR] The trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed.
I researched the error and the resolution is to disable the Discovery Search mailbox.
Are the following commands correct to disable the mailbox and run SP3 and then enabled and add permission?
When I run the first command I get the following prompt:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Disable-Mailbox "DiscoverySearchMailbox {D919BA05-46A6-415f-80AD-7E09334BB852}"
Confirm
Are you sure you want to perform this action?
Disabling mailbox "DiscoverySearchMailbox {D919BA05-46A6-415f-80AD-7E09334BB852}" will remove the Exchange properties
from the Active Directory user object and mark the mailbox in the database for removal. If the mailbox has an archive
or remote archive, the archive will also be marked for removal. In the case of remote archives, this action is
permanent. You can't reconnect this user to the remote archive again.

I'm getting this error when trying to run CU 8 on our Exchange 2013 server.
How to make it not happen??
Is there any way to find out how/where this process is running so it can be closed??
Thank you, Tom
Howdy,
If my team has an email distribution list, and I need to email everyone else on the team, is there any way to set something so that the person sending the email doesn't get their own email back if they are on the list they are sending to?
Currently, if I send an email to our "IT" list, and I'm on the "IT" list, I get a copy of my own email sent back to me. This seems silly to me. I know I've used some program in the past that was smart enough not to do that but I don't recall if Exchange/Outlook has the ability to not do that.
Thanks.
Hi all !
I'm trying to understand what are the default setting in the Exchange Calculator for user access clients ?
For me, the sizer takes care very well of incoming and outgoing mails in the mailbox profile.
But does the sizer consider that the users are connected using OA, OWA, Activesync, both ?
For Blackberry, I remember we have to add 1.5x multiplier in the megacycles multiplication factor.
But how can we configure that for example 50% of users are using Outlook, 50% are using OWA and 25% are Activesync users ?
Thank you for your feedback. Have a nice weekend !
Howdy All,
So I just completed a public folder migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. Everything went really well except now all the mail enabled PFs that came across are all showed as not mail enabled even though they are mail enabled. Meaning, in the EAC under public folders every PF has a no beside their name for mail enabled even though we have about 50 folders that are mail enabled and are working.
So now when I need to disable a mail enabled folder I can’t. If I enable the folder for mail, it now has two email address, the old one and the new one. How does one go about managing these old mail enabled PFs????
I want to know about Exchange server 2013 SP1 Standard and Enterprise version support how many Mailbox databases and Public folder Databases? Total Mailbox and Public folder databases supported information.
I Know as below but not clear:
1) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Sandard edition support 5 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=5 or 5 mailbox databases+5 public folder databases=10 databases
2) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Enterprise edition support 100 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=100 or 100 mailbox databases+100 public folder databases=200 databases
kindly let me know. Thanks.
