contacts are not showing

Hi  ,

We are using Exchange 2013. I have recently created one user approx 24 hours ago. Now , when I am checking my GAL , its not showing inside it , but it shows inside the all contacts. 

I try to download offline address book inside the outlook but its not working . 

Contact is not hide inside the exchange , also while i browse the GAL ,it shows its there inside the exchange . I even try shell commands but its not showing ...

Deleting a Mailbox

We have AD 2003/2008, Exchange 2013, If I delete a AD user, will it "delete" the mailbox or "Disconnect" it , where in Exchange 2013 are settings for Disconnected mailbox, viewing etc?

mail defer happen on particular user

Anyone experience mail defer only happen on particular user. No matter send from internal or external some of mail to the particular user will defer. From message tracking log found below message on recipient Status

OAB not downloading

Hi All,

Running Exchange 2013 and Outlook 2013.

So it looks like I am having a problem with OAB. When I run outlook in OWA or in Cached mode the address book is perfect. When Outlook is in cached mode I am not seeing the right people.

When I run the command get-mailbox “joe smo” | FL

The offlineaddressbook field is empty.

So I took a look in the database section -> client settings and the proper offline address book is there.  When I try a test E-mail AutoConfiguration in outlook, everything looks good there too.

Any idea what is wrong here?

Getting this error "Failed to generate proxy address. Additional information: General Error".

I am trying to mailbox enable an User but I get this PS Error: Failed to generate proxy address. Additional information: General Error.

The command I am using is : Enable-MailBox -Identity CN=Asst General Manager CS,OU=Users,OU=Accounts,OU=Atlanta,OU=Proof,DC=ds,DC=Contoso,DC=com -Database ContosoDB- VS -DomainController DC.contoso.com -Confirm False.

I am using Azure PS for Office 365

Exchange 2013 Mail flow after one DAG crash

I just wanted to investigate how could fail to be delivered when one DAG server crashed.

I have 3 Dag servers and one of them got a "BLUE SCREEN", crashed but not totally down.

1-some users started getting Outlook "disconnected" on the clients, I wonder why this has to happen with the clients when the databases were already mounted on the 2 remaing Dag servers. Till I had to reboot the crashed dag server that they users started getting connections. Could it be that because the server was not down completely ?

2-At the same time an email was sent to a distribution list of over 2000 users when the dag server crashed, some users got the email and others did not. So what could have been the logic here ? why the email flow stopped and even when the dag server was bounced no mail flow continued to the DL.

Certificate

Hi everyone, I was using Exchange Server 2007 and i am using Third party CA with the following SAN names
mail.mydomain.com, mydomain.com, www.mydomain.com, legacy.mydomain.com, autodiscover.mydomain.com.
I did the transition to Exchange Server 2013 and i did import the certificate successfully and i have never used this 
certificate for my company website.

When i open owa i can see the san names under certificates, and when i  export this certificate from exchange server and import it in my webserver i am facing issues in IIS. Now i needed to generate a  new CSR should i generate the  csr from my exchange server or from the webserver. I am confused here.(Please do refer the attachment for the error i am facing in IIS on webserver when i import the cert)

postmaster problem

Hi! How can I reset my Outlook/Exchange postmaster messages? I think there is one unsend messages somewhere, replaying few address " couldn´t be delivery" and this messages will be sent several times /hour to my post. How can I stop this automatic"loop"???? I can´t see any messages my send-box, is´t really empty. But some or someone? will be sent the same messages again and again...

Hello,

We use Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012. Since yesterday, we can't  send or receive emails to / from outside.
Internal email works.

How to diag/analyse the problem ?

Exchange PowerShell Command Not Recognized

I am trying to run simple commands which worked in Exchange PowerShell before but now I get;

The term 'Start-ManagedFolderAssistant' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.

Any thoughts on why this would occur?

Journaling questions

Hello, I have taken over an exchange 2013 hybrid setup with employees on premise and students on 365.  I have noticed there is a journal mailbox hat is using 340GB.  What are my best options to decrease this size.  I am new to journaling and am not even sure how you can access this journal mailbox if needed.

User name change not reflected in Address Book

We had a user change their name a few weeks ago. I changed her name and AD account and moved on. Today I look and the address book still shows the old name. I have changed other names since even one today and they all show the new name. What would cause one account not to update the addressbook?

Replicate database and log to other exchange server

I have 2 Exchange Server 2010 - server A and server B and running DAG. one database on server A is corrupt. I tried to fix it but still cannot mount the corrupt database. I would like to remove the corrupt database and log folder from server A and copy the database to server A from server B. Could provide detail procedure? Thank you!

How long does Activesync to Exchange cache credentials?

I had a user last night who's AD account was locked out at 6:30 PM EST.  However even though his account was locked out, email was still working without a problem on his activesync connected iPhone device.  When an account is locked, shouldn't all access be terminated until it is unlocked by an admin?

How long would he have been able to read and send emails with a locked AD account using his iPhone device?  He was still able to email me about this at 6:37 AM EST today, so over 12 hours with the account locked, his email was still working.

Note, OWA access was denied, but ActiveSync worked fine.

We've noticed this before when people change passwords, the email still works with the old password for awhile on the IOS device and eventually it prompts them about invalid credentials and they enter the new password to restore connectivity.  So how long is this hash or ticket cached?

Everyone got kicked out of Outlook this morning at 8:40

Exchange had a few System errors:

A process serving application pool 'MSExchangeMapiFrontEndAppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '7812'. The data field contains the error number.

The Microsoft Exchange Transport service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

We are non SP1 on CU3,  I'm looking to upgrade to CU8 soon... are there any other possible causes here?  

Is there an upgrade path from CU3 to CU8 that I need to take?

Outlook appointment reminders coming from deleted calendar

I have a user who is getting Outlook Appoint reminders from a deleted calendar

This was another users calendar, which was part of a mailbox restored to this user for reference. This "restored folder/mailbox" has been deleted, but appointment reminders are still popping up.

Exchange cannot backup - VSS writer error

I cannot backup Exchange Server and found 5 error at event viewer. Please see below. Thanks a million!

1. Event D 9857

Exchange VSS Writer (instance 1c977bdc-f1b9-45e8-9655-71368bee3224) has detected an orphaned backup instance (d0a44f2a-a3f9-4ab2-a1a2-5dd0b6cffbf4). This means that the instance successfully completed the OnPrepareBackup phase, but was abandoned after that (without any further calls into the Exchange VSS Writer). The instance has been reclaimed.

2. Event ID 2140

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer encountered an error in function Microsoft::Exchange::Cluster::ReplicaVssWriter::CReplicaVssWriterInterop::PrepareBackup. HResult -2146233079. Error: System.InvalidOperationException: Nullable object must have a value.

4. Event ID 8229

A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f3, The writer experienced a transient error.  If the backup process is retried,
the error may not reoccur.
. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer.

Exchange 2013 Dynamic Distribution Group - RecipientContainer Flag is Partially Ignored

Hello,

There seems to be a bug? in Exchange 2013. I'm running the following command

New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "Office Staff - WI" -Alias "Office_Staff_WI" -RecipientContainer "company.private/Employees/Midwest/Wisconsin" -RecipientFilter {((RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (Title -eq 'Front Office Coordinator'))}

The last OU of the -recipientcontainer flag is being ignored (Wisconsin), and it is instead using Midwest as the last container.

The behavior is replicated when I use East/Delaware, and the -recipientcontainer ignores Delaware, and just uses East.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2010 Dynamic Distribution Group - RecipientContainer ignored

Maybe someone will be able to help me with this...  I am trying to create DDGs for my organization but it seems the "RecipientContainer" is being ignored.  I have reorganized AD to include a top level OU called "Active Employees" and within that are sub-OUs for each department.  I also have a top level OU for "Disabled Accounts" and users in those OUs are ending up on my DDG.  Is this a known issue with Exchange 2010?

First I had created the DDG in EMC and everything looked good.  I set the Recipient Container on the Filter tab by using the browse button and selecting mydomain.local\Active Employees, and then selected "Users with Exchange Mailboxes".  On the Conditions tab I left everything blank and when I clicked on Preview it returned the list of users I expected to see.  After sending a test email and receiving an NDR from an email contact (not on the preview list) I realized something was wrong.

At this point I found out how to query the group members using the shell and saw that all users in the entire domain were being put into the group.  To resolve this I added a Condition for Company name and then tediously updated the field for each user in AD.  After querying the group from the shell again the results looked a little better - it was actually only pulling users with the correct "Company" in AD.  The problem is it still seems to be ignoring the RecipientContainer parameter and querying the entire domain instead of my Active Employees OU.

I have reproduced the same results whether creating the DDG from EMC or from the Shell.  When I try to use the Set-DynamicDistributionGroup cmdlet to update the recipient container it warns me that the commad was successful but nothing has been modified.  This was supposed to be a simple solution for keeping our distribution groups up to date - maybe I should've known better...
