Exchange 2013 DAG replication happening only one way

$

Hi Folks,

I have 3 member dag for my exchange server 2013 environment,2 mailbox server located in primary site and one in DR site,i have around 10 mailbox database with 1 TB of exchange database size.

all the replication from the primary site to the DR site is going fine without any issues,recently i noted one thing thing ,i activated one of the database to the DR site and it was successful it shows healthy and mounted but as soon as it gets activated to the DR the other two servers in primary sites does not replicate with the DR, the status for the both the passive copy shows as Disconnected and resynchronizing.

i tried deleting the log file and database file and tried to reseed again with no luck .when i try to update it i get the error

An error occurred while performing the seed operation. Error: A timeout occurred while communicating with server 'DRMBX05'. Error: "A connection could not be completed within 15 .

As per my troubleshooting i noticed the following things.

1) in same environment i have my exchange 2010 servers with a different DAG i am able to switch the database from primary to DR without any issues this says its not network speed issue.

2) i found one thing, which i doubt, i can see only one network adapter configured in my DR mailbox server, and i can see multiple network adapters in primary site servers,its just a doubt, may be this has to do something with the issue i don't know?

3)two mailbox servers in primary site are physical and the DR server is installed as a VM in  Hyper V.

please help me out as i need to activate all the databases to my DR site for DR drill and get it back to primary site again,activating it to DR site is not an issue but i am unable to activate the databases again to my primary site the queue lengths keeps on increasing seems the logs are not replicating from DR to the primary servers.

Regards

Jack

We are planning to migrate exchange 2010 to 2013 co-existence

Planning to follow the below URL for migration

http://jenny.bourdiol.org/sites/jenny.bourdiol.org/files/article_doctek/rapid_migration_guide_from_exchange_2010_to_exchange_2013-v1.2.pdf

But still having below queries please help out on this.

  1.       How to move Distribution Groups and contacts from exchange 2010 to 2013
  2.       From exchange 2010 existing Accepted domains, OWA mailbox policy, Activesync mailbox policy, E-mail address policy, transport rules manually to be created in exchange 2013 after install.
  3.       After all mailboxes’ moves from exchange 2010 to 2013, existing arbitration mailboxes to be moved from exchange 2010 to 2013.
  4.       Allow/Block/Quarantine enabled in exchange 2010 so we need to do same process in exchange 2013 also.
  5.       We have implemented a single name URL like (mail.contoso.com) for both for internal and external HTTPS URLs and the RPC client access array in exchange 2010 and outlook anywhere has been enabled in exchange 2010. Planned to configure in exchange 2013 same URL.

While connecting external (https) users to exchange 2013 and it’s proxying the connection to exchange 2010 but internal users will face any issue on it.

Shared mailbox - location of sent items

$

Users have a requirement that items sent from a shared mailbox get put into the sent items folder of the shared mailbox. Seems a common issue.

We tried using the DelegateSentItemStyle registry fix. This worked but left items in the outbox since we were not using cached mode. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2703723).

I understand with 2013 CU9 theres a new feature which allows each specific mailbox to be set to copy to the shared mailbox sent folder too (http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2015/03/03/want-more-control-over-sent-items-when-using-shared-mailboxes.aspx).

Brilliant, exactly what we want - no need for the registry fix - which doesn't work for us anyway.

BUT, user wants a copy in the shared sent folder but NOT the user sent folder. I'm guessing not but is there any way to do this at all?

Hello,

Is anybody aware of any specs on "Mscrm.InlineCommands".
Eventually specifically for:

Mscrm.InlineCommands.EmailSend

I am wondering if there is also a function:

Mscrm.InlineCommands.EmailSendAndSave

or separate

Mscrm.InlineCommands.EmailSave

so that I may force the Save and Send of a message onto an Exchange on cloud solution.

I am using a CRM 2013 on-premises implementation.

Thank you,

Missing Secure Flag & HttpOnly Flag From Exchange 2013 OWA

$

Hello everyone,

I have got a request from one of my clients asking me to add the following flag to OWA's web.config file but I am unable to find the whole flag in the first place.

<httpCookies httpOnlyCookies="true" requireSSL="true"/>

I guess the flag exists in Exchange 2010 but it might changed in 2013.

The traffic can be seen to use HttpOnly without request for SSL on the cookie that Exchange use for authentication on Owa

I would appreciate any suggestion or clarification on this question.

Thanks

Exchange resource - Meeting room appointment

$

I have Exchange 2013 CU 10. I have created a meeting room calendar using Exchange resources which works fine except 1 thing. If a request is declined (I have auto accept/deny enabled), the date format in the email is mm/dd/yyy. Because I am based in the UK I want dd/mm/yyyy. The odd thing is the “new email – desktop alert” shows the correct date format but the actual email doesn’t. General calendars dates show up correctly in Outlook and the local computer regional settings in control panel are correct (The wrong format shows up on an iPhone as well). I have run the following from the Exchange Shell to make sure the resource is configured correctly:

Set-MailboxRegionalConfiguration -identity londonboardroom@17g.co.uk -TimeZone "GMT Standard Time" -Language en-gb -DateFormat "dd/MM/yyyy"

Totally out of ideas now

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Schedule task for New-MigrationBatch

Hi All,

Windows 2012+ Exchange 2013 CU10

I follow this wiki:

How to use Task Scheduler for Exchange scripts

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/23150.how-to-use-task-scheduler-for-exchange-scripts.aspx

to test a schedule task.

I can run the example cmdlet in windows powershell:

 C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Powershell.exe  -noExit -Command ".'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\RemoteExchange.ps1'; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto;Get-queue> c:\temp\queue.txt"

But if I replace get-queue with New-MigrationBatch -Local -Name MigrationBatch1 -CSVData ([System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes("D:\mailboxmove\mailboxlist.csv")) -TargetDatabases mdb01 -AutoStart -AutoComplete -NotificationEmailsabc@contoso, it won't work. It says ")" is missing or similar error. Can someone give me a hint, thanks.

Hi,
i want to grant permissions for viewing some Folders.

Add-MailboxFolderPermission "userA:\inbox" -User myuser -AccessRights Reviewer
Add-MailboxFolderPermission "userA:\sent items" -User myuser -AccessRights Reviewer

then, i'm trying to open userA Mailbox in OWA of myuser, but i can see only Inbox, and can't see "Sent Items".
if i logon as userA in OWA, i can see, that permissions are granted for "Sent Items". I can delete this permission and reset again. didn't help.

What is wrong?
On my test Server it is working without any problems... Both Servers are running Exchange 2013 CU9

Problem with Ressource Mailbox: User can access in OWA

$

Hi there,

I have a strange problem: I have "ressource rooms"-user who shall be able to actually have a look in the ressource calender to view the meeting organizer and subject ("Exchange_Rooms_LimitedDetails@domain.com") and others wo shall be able to edit/delete ("Exchange_Rooms_Change@domain.com"), but preferable without being able to look into the body. This is what I have done:

New-Mailbox -Name "RoomX" -Alias "RoomX" -OrganizationalUnit "domain/Mailboxes/Resource_Mailbox/Rooms" -Room
Set-MailboxFolderPermission -AccessRights LimitedDetails -Identity "RoomX:\Calendar" -User default
Add-MailboxFolderPermission -identity "RoomX:\Calendar" -user "Exchange_Rooms_LimitedDetails@domain.com" -AccessRights ReadItems
Add-MailboxFolderPermission -identity "RoomX:\Calendar" -user "Exchange_Rooms_Change@domain.com" -AccessRights ReadItems, DeleteAllItems, EditAllItems, FolderVisible
Set-CalendarProcessing -Identity "RoomX" -AutomateProcessing AutoAccept -AddOrganizerToSubject $true -DeleteComments $true-DeleteSubject $false -AddAdditionalResponse:$true

In Outlook users from "Exchange_Rooms_LimitedDetails@domain.com" cannot open Ressource Calender Items, in OWA they can: Any Idea? How can I achive that users in "Exchange_Rooms_Change@domain.com" can actually delete objects but not open (see the body)?

Thanks!

Carsten

Hi,

When Running Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit it shows that four user mailboxes has Enterprise features enabled. How do I see which features are enabled on these mailboxes? I have tried comparing these mailboxes with other mailboxes that don't have the Enterprise feature enabled

Looking in the Exchange 2010 Organization Health it shows:

Enterprise CALs required: 0

Convert a security group in a mailbox

Hello, in my domain I have a security group that is also mail enabled. I need to convert it in a standalone mailbox, because users need to write from this address. I can't delete the object in AD because it acts as security group in share permissions. I tried to run Disable-DistributionGroup and then create a mailbox with the smtp address that was of the DG, it works but the mailbox cannot have the same name of the DG, and it is a problem because it is visible in the GAL. Is there another way to reach my goal? Thank you

Retiring Mailbox Database. Do I migrate these mailboxes?

$

I've got an Exchange 2013 (locally hosted) mailbox database that I'm emptying out so I can remove it (storage management).  I'm not running a DAG.

I've migrated the user mailboxes, I've got a procedure for my public folder mailbox.  There are a few system mailboxes that I'm not sure what to do with:

- Microsoft Exchange (2 of these)
- Microsoft Exchange Approval Assistant
- Microsoft Exchange Federation Mailbox (I have no federated servers)
- Microsoft Exchange Migration

Do I migrate these mailboxes?  Do I just abandon them and dismount the database?

Thanks

Patrick

Force a save into "sent Items" folder for sent messages

$

Hello,

Is it any way that someone could force (statically or programatically) a save into Sent Items of the mailbox from which the message is sent for each sent message.

A type of replacing:

        public void Send()
        {
            this.InternalSend(null, MessageDisposition.SendOnly);
        }

with

        public void Send()
        {
            this.InternalSend(new FolderId(WellKnownFolderName.SentItems), MessageDisposition.SendAndSaveCopy);
        }

on Exchange server on-premises ... or better, even in the cloud if possible ??

Thank you,
Sever

Exchange 2013 MAPI over HTTP, testconnectivity.microsoft.com failure

Setup
Exchange 2013 CU10
Two servers with DAG
HA Proxy with Public IP Addresses and NAT
Exchange servers and AD with Private IP range 192.168...
Autodiscover is setup using the HTTP redirect method and testing just Autodiscover succeeds

Outlook Clients 2013 and 2016 work perfectly however when run the Outlook connectivity test I get the following failure:

Testing MAPI over HTTP connectivity to server mail.publicdomain.com
MAPI over HTTP connectivity failed.

Additional Details

Elapsed Time: 123 ms.
Test Steps
Attempting to resolve the host name ex02.internaldomain.lan in DNS.
The host name couldn't be resolved.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it

Additional Details

Host ex02.internaldomain.lan couldn't be resolved in DNS InfoDomainNonexistent.
Elapsed Time: 123 ms.

What I don't understand is where is the DNS trying to resolve that from, is it trying to resolve that internal name from outside the network, then I'd expect that to fail, although I could have sworn that I got no failures the first few times I ran this test. MAPI has been configured and both internal and external url's are configured to the public address mail.publicdomain.com, Outlook connects fine and is functioning, for both 2013 and 2016, although I upgrade my machine from 2013 to 2016, so can't tell you the exact version number if that makes a difference.

Running Test-OutlookConnectivity -RunFromServerId EX01 -ProbeIdentity OutlookMapiHttpSelfTestProbe and Test-OutlookConnectivity -RunFromServerId EX02 -ProbeIdentity OutlookMapiHttpSelfTestProbe from both servers also succeeds.

The connection status within Outlook shows the protocol is HTTP with server name values of https://mail.publicdomain.com/mapi/emsmdb/?MailboxId=someguid@domain.co.uk <- the .co.uk is a redirected domain

Any ideas?

Good Day

I have just installed exchange 2013 in my home environment for testing/learning purpose, and I was wondering if I can get some assistance please.

My domain name is: internal.layer10.com. FYI: netbios is set to layer10

I Have 3 severs which are: DC1, DC2 DC3-Exchange. DC1 is domain controller, DC2 is a SCCM 2012 server an DC3-Exchange is Exchange 2013 server.

I have an outlook 2013 installed on my physical computer and I am trying to connect to my exchange server. My computer is not connected to virtual domain however I did change my dns settings so it points to DC1.

IP settings of my 3 servers are:

DC1 = 192.168.1.170

DC2= 192.168.1.175

DC3-Exchange = 192.168.1.180

Can someone please check my records or advise me what I've done wrong or what I should do? I've been researching and researching on internet and I can't find the answer. Or should I make a new zone as Layer10.com in DNS and configure my records this way?

Thanks for your time.
