Does the DKIM process perform any checks before signing and attempting to deliver message?

I'm trying to send DKIM signed messages from my server in domain ABC.com, to a remote mail server with domain XYZ.com.

  • When I send with a FROM address @abc.com the messages arrive to the xyz.com mailbox DKIM signed.
  • When I send with a FROM address @somerand.com the messages arrive to the xyz.com mailbox DKIM signed.
  • Now when I send with a FROM address of @xyz.com the messages do arrive to the xyz.com mail system, but they are not DKIM signed. 
  • If I send with a FROM address of @xyz.com and send to DKIMValidator.com, the message is DKIM signed.

Can anyone explain in detail the step by step process?  My basic understanding is the MTA will DKIM sign the message if instructed to do so for that queue/domain and attempt to send.  Is there any initial communication between the two servers before the DKIM signing takes place, such that a remote domain response could prevent the DKIM signing?

SSL Problem on Rpc

Hi

We have recently deployed Exchange Server 2013 in our organization and all users connect to it using outlook anywhere. We want to turn off the SSL on Rpc website. When we disable "Require SSL", after few minuted it gets enabled automatically and users are prompted to provide their user names and password.

Please let me know how can i solve the problem.

How to export dismounted EDB to PST?

For some reason, I need to view my Exchange database in Outlook so I have to convert my EDB file to PST. There is one problem Exchange server is not installed on the system. Is there any way which can help me out in converting dismounted EDB file to PST?
Any help will be appreciable.

Application Pool Crash

Application pool crash frequently. Such as OWA,ECP,DefaultAppPool,MSExchangeOWACalendarAppPool. it crash all three servers server1, server2 and server3 (Exchange 2013)

We received below error message from SCOM.

3 CAS+MBX Internal users only (DAG01)

how to speed up Address Book changes?

when Outlook clients are in cache mode, what is supposed to be number of hours we have to wait for changes in the Address Book to be received? if we deem it too slow, is there anything we can do to increase updates like adding more RAM, hd, servers?

i have a DAG (2 mb servers, 2 cas servers) with mb servers having 20GB RAM, and cas servers having 12GB RAM. i have roughly 1,500 mailboxes only.

how to replace corrupted "Deleted Items" folder?

i have this user whose "Deleted Items" folder seems to be corrupted. what happens is, when you click on any mail items inside that folder, the view of that folder keeps jumping up and down. weird isn't it? so I was thinking, if I could create a new "Deleted Items" folder, will new deleted items automatically go to that newly created folder?

Outlook 2010- unable to fetch outlookanywhere information from Exchange 2013 servers

Hi Experts,

We have coexistance between Exchange 2010SP3 and Exchange 2013 SP1 CU10.

That problem is when i configure Outlook it configure with Exchange 2013 server name, not with GUID.

Along with that there is no RPC over HTTP settings.

due to this i am not able to see the address book and send messages.

Let me know if need any other information.

Get-MailboxFolderStatistics issue post migration

Hello,

We are in the process of migrating from 2010 to 2013. I moved the admin account to 2013 and tried to run a command I have in a script that was running just fine in 2010 but in 2013 I am getting the below error. Is this expected? We have Exchange 2013 CU12 and Exchange 2010 SP3. I am trying to run this command from and exchange 2013 MBX/CAS server. Also, I am using the same account I have been using with admin rights.

Public folders in Multi-tenant exchange

Hi There,

We have a 2013 hosted exchange server hosting multiple tenants, we have these separated out using address book policies so they can't see other tenants on the same server

We now want to add another tenant who want to start using public folders once they come on board, we would like to know what the best approach to do this is without having any impact on any other tenants & ideally without other tenants having the ability to view what public folders are there.

While testing i created a PF mailbox and a couple of test public folders, to keep it private to the one tenant I created in the new tenants OU and added the customattribute to the mailbox that relates to the tenants address book policy.

However after creating this several current tenants were constantly prompted to type in credentials to connect to the public folders so I have had to delete the PF mailbox for now to stop this happening.

I would be grateful for any advice as to the best practice for setting this up while keeping the public folders completely private to the one tenant or atleast stop the credential issue from popping up, thanks

cPanel autodiscover conflict with Exchange

I'm curious how (mostly hosters) are dealing with the cPanel autodiscover conflict? The problem is it seems cPanel uses the same /Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml setup as Exchange does. When Outlook does an autodiscover lookup it starts in this order:

  • https://roodomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
  • https://autodiscover.rootdomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
  • http://autodiscover.rootdomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
  • _autodiscover._tcp.rootdomain.com SRV 

So it is not uncommon for someone to have Office365 or another Exchange hosting provider for their email but have a separateweb hosting company for their website (most of the time the company that develops the website ends up hosting it in my case).

So the issue is since cPanel has autodiscover for the root domain Outlook tries configuring that instead of moving on to the CNAME for autodiscover using the redirect method (which is what Microsoft tells us hosters to do).

I don't see a way to disable this autodiscover in cPanel on a per domain level. Just wanted some ideas/inputs from you all

Date modified afer SMEX scan

Dear reader,

The company where I work for has an Exchange 2013 environment where TrendMicro ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) is used for virus/maleware scanning.

For archiving of the emails Commvault v11 is used.

The problem is that when a scheduled or manual scan inside SMEX is activated the Date Modified of the emails in Exchange are changed. When the archiving job of Commvault runs it looks at the modified date and because the email is not older than a day the email will be skipped.

I have contacted support at TrendMicro of this behaviour and got as reply:

"...the modified date/time is a Microsoft standard wherein the email modified time should be updated when Manual or Scheduled Scan is executed, this is the normal behavior for all Anti-malware vendors. This is a Microsoft standard behavior. The recommendation is to report the case to Microsoft to find out if there is a workaround or a fix for this...."

Can someone please help me to shine a light on this matter...

User is missing from the Offline Address book

We had a user who requested their primary smtp address to be changed. The help desk changed their address to firstname.lastname@domain.com from the EMC. User appears in the global address list just fine but for users who have cached mode enabled on their machines, the user does NOT show up in the offline address book. 

I've verified their Email address is the same in AD as whats set as primary in exchange. I've created a new OAB, i've force updates of the GAL and OAB, i've enabled high logging on msexchSA OAB generation and no errors show with her name. I've reached the end of the internet trying to find a solution. can someone help?

Soft recovery query

Hi techies

I have a concern.

We use a backup application which use VSS writer to perform backups.

When we restore the backups to the original location, the application copies the data to the actual location and exchange VSS writers performs postRestore process and mount the database. I have no issues doing this.

Our backup application also allows us to restore the .EDB and logs to the local disk. Which means I can dump the .EDB and logs to a temp location and use it the way I want.

When we restore them to the D:\Temp, and run eseutil /mh, the database status shows "Dirty Shutdown", and it is because it was open, online and mounted during the backup.

I replay the logs manually using eseutil /r EXX /L /S /D /i, the process completes successfully.

But when I again run eseutil /mh, the database shows "Dirty shutdown" with "Log required" showing some logs which are present in the log directory (C:\Temp) were supposed to be replayed during soft recovery.

This is not specific to any one setup, it happens on all of my Exchange machines. I tried this with another backup software, but nothing changed.

I have checked the log sequence (/ML) and checksum on database, everything looks fine.

Am i missing anything?

Is there something which "PostRestore" method  API does internally which I am missing?

Exchange 2010 to 2013 Migration Outlook Prompt - Please Help

Hi All, Looking for some assistance on this error. We are migrating from 2010 to 2013. We currently have a 2013 environment staged in parallel to our 2010 environment. The existing 2010 cas array is configured through an F5 load balancer. I have two test mail users on 2013. One user I migrated from 2010 to 2013 and one user whom I created directly on 2013. When I open Outlook for either of these users I am presented with the following message.

I am looking to eliminate this prompt from occurring at all, since I need to ensure that the transition is as seamless as possible. I suspect that everything is configured properly, the only thing I have not yet done is add the exchange 2013 CAS servers to the F5 load balancer CAS pool. Is it possible that not having the 2013 CAS servers added to the F5 in the same CAS pool as the existing 2010 CAS servers could cause this problem? This has not been done yet as it requires a change request to be submitted to our network team, and I need to be 100% sure that no service interruption occurs as a result. I have went through the process of using the Autodiscover GPO policy and tried to disable the SCP lookup feature. In fact I have tried each of the available autodiscover service settings in the policy in various combinations without any luck . So I am not sure if I am missing something obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
